Doctor “called son” after allegedly trying to push wife off cliff

The doctor who stands accused of trying to murder his wife by pushing her from a popular tourist spot allegedly placed a call to his son moments after the act.

Anesthesiologist Gerhardt Konig was charged with second-degree attempted murder last week after he allegedly tried to kill Arielle Konig by pushing her from a famous viewpoint in Oahu, Hawaii at around 10am on March 24.

It’s also reported that the doctor hit his wife on the back of the head with a rock, as well as tried to prick her with two syringes.

Arielle survived the ordeal, but claims she was lucky to escape with her life.

It’s claimed that the couple have been married six years, but their union had grown tumultuous in the months preceding the alleged attack in Oahu.

Arielle applied for a restraining order against her husband, stating that he called his adult son after the incident. Gerhardt is purported to have told his son that he “tried to kill her” but she “got away.”

The 46-year-old has since been charged with second-degree attempted murder. His bail was set at $5 million.

In the restraining order filing, Arielle alleges that her husband was prone to “extreme jealousy”, accusing him of trying to “control and monitor” her communications.

She also claims that in December of last year (2024), Gerhardt confronted her with his belief that she had been unfaithful.

Earlier this week, PEOPLE Magazine shed light on an affidavit detailing the events of March 24.

With the couple having reached the aforementioned viewpoint in Oahu, Gerhardt is reported to have asked his wife to take a selfie with him on the tourist spot edge. Arielle, however, expressed that she didn’t feel comfortable standing so close to the edge, so declined and began to walk back.

Gerhardt, it’s claimed, then “yelled at her to come back, and when she refused, he pushed her into the bushes where they began to struggle.”

Arielle said that her husband then struck her with a rock and smashed her face into the ground. She was able to escape the attack after crawling to two fellow hikers and informing them that her husband was “trying to kill [her]”.
