President Donald Trump reportedly urged Israel not to retaliate against Iran following a fresh exchange of missile strikes, warning that any further escalation could jeopardise ongoing efforts to secure a wider peace agreement. Speaking after Iran launched missiles in response to an Israeli strike linked to Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, Trump said the two sides were “very close” to a deal and stressed that diplomacy should be given a chance to work.’
According to reports, Trump personally contacted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and pressed him to hold back from launching a counterattack.
Deadly earthquake hits the Philippines
A powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of the southern Philippines this morning, killing at least 16 people and injuring more than 200 others as buildings collapsed, roads were damaged, and a tsunami hit parts of the coastline. The quake’s epicentre was located near Mindanao, with severe damage reported in and around the city of General Santos, where rescue crews have been searching damaged buildings for survivors.
The earthquake also triggered tsunami warnings across the region, prompting evacuations in parts of the Philippines, Indonesia and other Pacific nations.
Iran and Israel exchange strikes for first-time since ceasefire
Iran and Israel exchanged direct strikes for the first time since a fragile ceasefire began in April, escalating fears that months of relative calm in the Middle East could be coming to an end.
Iran launched several waves of missiles toward Israel, describing the attack as a response to Israeli strikes in Beirut linked to operations against Hezbollah. Israeli air defence systems intercepted many of the incoming missiles, with no immediate reports of major casualties.
Soccer star Christian Eriksen collapses for second time on pitch
Soccer fans around the world were left stunned this weekend after Danish star Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch during Denmark’s international friendly against Ukraine. The incident marked the second time in his career that the 34-year-old has suffered a serious on-field medical emergency.
The match was immediately halted as medical staff rushed to his aid. Thankfully, Eriksen regained consciousness quickly and was able to walk to the ambulance before being taken to hospital for further tests. In 2021, the soccer player had to be resuscitated on the pitch after collapsing, and was later fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator.

The 2026 Tony Awards celebrated a strong Broadway season last night with a mix of new productions and classic revivals taking home the night’s biggest honours. Musical comedy Schmigadoon! was named Best Musical, while Bess Wohl’s Liberation won Best Play. Meanwhile, Ragtime claimed Best Revival of a Musical and Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman was crowned Best Revival of a Play, emerging as one of the evening’s most decorated productions.
