Family of Texas teen speak out in heartbreaking tribute after she vanished on Christmas Eve

The 19-year-old girl who had been missing since Christmas Eve in northwest Bexar County, Texas, has been found dead. Camila Mendoza Olmos’ death has been ruled a suicide. Now, her family has shared a heartbreaking tribute.

Camila Mendoza Olmos went missing on Christmas Eve morning, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said. Investigators shared security footage believed to show Mendoza Olmos searching her car in her driveway around 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Later, a dash cam video from a person driving to work on Wednesday morning showed a woman passing by walking alone. Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said Tuesday that the person may have been Mendoza.

On Tuesday afternoon, authorities found a body in a field, approximately 100 years from Mendoa Olmo’s home. The area had previously been searched; however, authorities from the sheriff’s office and the FBI returned on Tuesday.

The field was covered in tall grass, prompting authorities to recheck it. A firearm was located at the scene, and according to Salazar, a gun that belonged to a relative of Camila had been missing. It was not clear if it was the same one.

Camila Mendoza Olmos found dead – death ruled as suicide

On Wednesday, the body that was found in the field was identified as Camila Mendoza Olmos. According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, he medical examiner determined that Olmos died of a gunshot wound to the head. Her death was ruled a suicide.

“From what’s being described to us, it sounds like it was a young person going through a very tough time in their life,” Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said. “This is certainly not the outcome we were hoping for.”

On New Year’s Eve, a person identifying herself as Mendoza Olmo’s cousin, Nancy Olmo, posted a heartbreaking tribute to the late 19-year-old on Facebook.

“In the name of the Olmos family, we want to give a humble and heartfelt thank you to all the news reporters, police detectives, FBI, churches, friends, family, and many other communities for your support and prayers. Our beloved Camila Mendoza Olmos is now with the Good Lord,” she wrote.

“We kindly ask that you please respect our pain and, most importantly, keep my cousin Rosario — Camila’s mom — and my nephew Carlos — Camila’s brother — in your prayers during this incredibly difficult time. Thank you, and God bless you all.”
