FBI sends warning to California police over possible Iran ‘surprise attack’

The U.S has conducted strikes in Iran for more than two weeks. President Donald Trump has threatened the leaders of the country with more destruction, but now, an attack in the U.S from Iran could be made a reality. The FBI has sent out a warning to police in California over a possible ‘surprise attack’ from Iran.

The war in Iran continues. President Donald Trump’s administration has continued to strike against targets in Iran, and on Thursday, the conflict had a new development. Reports from both CNN and CBS claimed Iran had begun laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz, a shipping lane through which 20% of the world’s oil passes.

Donald Trump was quick to respond, threatening the Middle Eastern country with “military consequences at a level never seen before” if they failed to immediately remove any mines deployed.

‘The president added that any vessels attempting to place mines in the strait would “be dealt with quickly and violently.” Not long after the warning, on Wednesday, the Pentagon confirmed that the U.S. has sunk 16 mine-laying ships near the Strait of Hormuz.

The President also shared the news, writing on Truth Social that “within the last few hours, we have hit, and completely destroyed, 10 inactive mine laying boats and/or ships, with more to follow!”

Throughout the conflict, Iran’s leadership has threatened Donald Trump as well. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has claimed the U.S. successfully killed an assassination squad that was to kill the president, and earlier this week, another assassination threat was made from Iran.

Meanwhile, as the American attacks have continued, Iran has retaliated with drone strikes against several targets throughout the Middle East.

Now, a threat of strikes on U.S soil has been made. Per ABC, the FBI has warned police departments in California in recent days that Iran could retaliate for American attacks by launching drones at the West Coast.

“We recently acquired information that as of early February 2026, Iran allegedly aspired to conduct a surprise attack using unmanned aerial vehicles from an unidentified vessel off the coast of the United State Homeland, specifically against unspecified targets in California, in the event that the US conducted strikes against Iran,” the alert, which was distributed in late February, read. “We have no additional information on the timing, method, target, or perpetrators of this alleged attack.”

California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office told ABC News: “The Governor’s Office of Emergency Services is actively working with state, local and federal security officials to protect our communities.”

Meanwhile, the LA Sheriff’s Department said that “in light of current global events,” it is maintaining an “elevated level of readiness.”

“Out of an abundance of caution, and in recognition of current religious observances, the Department has continued increased patrols around places of worship, cultural institutions, and other prominent locations throughout the County,” the LA Sheriff’s Department said in a statement, per ABC. “We have proactively reviewed our deployment plans, enhanced coordination with our patrol stations, and ensured that additional resources are available should they be needed.”
