Fears serial killer is on the loose in this tourist hotspot after three women found murdered

A possible serial killer investigation in Mexico is raising concerns just weeks before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Authorities in Puerto Vallarta are investigating the deaths of three women. Similarities between the cases sparked fears that the killings could be connected. Police are reviewing surveillance footage, and collecting evidence, as they work to determine whether the murders follow a pattern, according to VT.

The first victim was found on May 10 near Rancho El Piruli. Less than a week later, a second woman’s body was discovered near a roadside stop along a highway. The third and most recent victim was found on a dirt road in the Parque Las Palmas neighborhood.

All three women were believed to be in their early-to-mid 30s. Investigators also noted that each victim had tattoos, was partially undressed, and was found in a secluded location, according to VT. They have not been officially identified.

Concerns about safety in Mexico ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup

According to Mexico News Daily, the latest victim had several noticeable tattoos on her neck, hand, and forearm, including a skull, a horned woman covering her mouth, and a woman’s name. Authorities believe the tattoos could help identify her.

Social media speculation has pointed to the possibility that the latest victim could be 22-year-old Elizabeth Martinez, who disappeared in April. Those claims have not been confirmed by police. However, investigators reportedly noticed similarities between Martinez’s tattoos and those found on the unidentified victim, according to a missing persons report.

Because of the similarities between the three cases, investigators are now looking into the possibility that the murders may be linked.

The recent violence has added to growing concerns about safety in Mexico ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. In response, Mexican officials said nearly 100,000 police officers, soldiers, and security personnel will be deployed to help protect soccer fans during the tournament.
