One week after the mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine, a Florida roofing company is causing quite the stir online for a promotion they’re running through the month of November.
Every customer who purchases a new roof with Roof EZ will also get a free turkey and an AR-15.
“Everybody should have an AR-15,” Roof EZ president Jason Polly said, according to NBC News. “Everybody should have the means to protect their homes and their family. It’s not really catered to anybody, any state, any political view, anything like that. It’s all about safety.”
The Cape Coral business claims the November special, “Roof and Gobble,” is all about safety and hopes it brings in more business to the company.
Within two days Roof EZ reportedly sold eight roofs and responded to 50 inquires.
A typically month for the company consists of 30 to 60 roofs; Roof EZ hopes the promotion will double those numbers.
For those concerned the roofing company will be handing out a gun to just anyone, Polly says customers will have to go through a background check, unless they already have a concealed carry permit.
“You have to go through all the proper channels before you can walk away with a gun,” he said.
Polly says the promotion is about everyone’s constitutional rights.
“If someone has the means to buy a roof, they have the means to go buy their own firearm,” he said. “They’re just buying a roof and supporting our Second Amendment right. I support everybody’s First Amendment right. … They can reciprocate and respect my Second Amendment rights.”
The semi-automatic weapon is often used in mass shootings in the United States. Because of that, many argue there is no need for the every day citizen to have access to an AR-15.
