Police were called to a Goodwill in Goodyear, Arizona after an employee found “what appears to be an actual human skull” in a box of donations.
While Goodwill is known for having all sorts of treasures, a human skull is not typically on the top of the list.
Officials transported the skull, which still had its front teeth attached and a false eye, to the medical examiner’s office, where it was determined to be “historic.”
A spokesperson for the Goodyear police department told KNXV the skull had been dropped off “with other taxidermy items” sometime over the weekend. Store employees did not get to the box until late Tuesday.
The contents of the box never made it to the sales floor.
“This is an unusual one,” said Lisa Berry with the Goodyear Police Department.
While the investigation remains ongoing, officials do not believe the skull is associated with a crime.
