A New Mexico woman has dropped a series of videos on TikTok revealing her parents were siblings, detailing the affect it has had on her life and opening up on the moment she truly came to terms with what that meant.
Known via her channel as Cameron, she shared her rather eye-opening stance on what growing up with her mother and father being “blood siblings” meant.
Needless to say, the concept of such a family dynamic is troubling to most from the outside looking in. Inbreeding is associated with numerous health issues, not to mention illegal in almost every U.S. state (New Jersey and Rhode Island do not have criminal statutes for sexual relations between consenting adults).
Yet Cameron’s take on her extremely rare situation is at the very least illuminating. In one video on her TikTok channel, she explained that people in her local community in a small New Mexico town “knew about my parents being related.”
Moreover, she never tried to hide it.
“I would tell everyone in elementary school because I thought it was cool that my parents were siblings,” she explained.
The TikToker added that eventually a teacher felt the need to step in and offer some words of caution.
“It wasn’t until about until fifth grade that my teacher pulled me aside and she was like, ‘Um, I don’t think you should be telling people this’,” she said.
It wasn’t until Cameron got older and was able to access the internet that she claims to have come to the realization that the environment in which she was raised wasn’t remotely normal.
She admitted her own view began to shift when she better understood how “wrong” it was that her mother and father were siblings. That, in turn, changed her perspective on her parents’ relationship.

In a separate video, Cameron responded to a commenter’s question regarding how she first learned her parents were related.
“I compare it a lot to people who are adopted. It was never really shied upon. I think just because it’s so normalised in my neighbourhood,” she said.
“I live in a really small town – so we just always knew. They were kind of proud of it!”
Cameron explained that her parents initially didn’t know that they were related – the circumstances of their respective upbringings are not clarified – and that they initially began dating after her father stopped by a diner where her mother was working after he had been hunting.
“They started dating before they even knew they were related,” she said. “If that helps a little bit.”
The TikToker revealed that since her parents – who are still together to this day – don’t have social media, they are unaware of her videos.
They fight all the time,” she said.
“I don’t really talk to them anymore just because, you know, they’re crazy.
“They live in a trailer park with hamsters everywhere.”
One commenter on TikTok wrote: “It takes a few generations of inbreeding before it really starts to show physical and mental characteristics.
“A good example is old royal families who’d only marry in the family to keep the money – eventually they’d start exhibiting certain things.”
