Guava Shuishui, a Taiwanese influencer known online as Guava Beauty, has died at the age of 24, her family confirmed in a statement shared on Instagram.
Guava rose to internet fame for her unconventional beauty content, in which she would sample makeup products in unexpected ways, including tasting them on camera. Her viral videos often featured her applying cosmetics as intended, then eating items like lipstick, blush, sheet masks, and even cotton pads, an approach that left some viewers amused and others concerned for her safety.
Though her content was frequently categorized as “mukbang”, a genre where creators eat food in front of the camera, Guava gave it an unorthodox twist. Instead of large meals, she used beauty products as her medium, earning both a loyal following and a steady stream of warnings from fans urging her to stop ingesting non-edible items.
On May 24, Guava passed away following what her family described as a “sudden illness.” No further details about the cause of death have been shared, the Daily Mail details.
A message posted to her Instagram account read: “Although this came suddenly, Shuishui held on to every moment just like she has always been – hard-working, serious, and shining.”
It continued: “Thank you to everyone who has liked, left a message, and laughed with her, and thank you for your love and support. She really kept it in her heart and cherished it very much.”

The family concluded their message with a poetic tribute: “Guava Shuishui simply continues to glow in a different place. When we meet again one day, she should be unboxing angels’ exclusive makeup for eating broadcasts.”
Her Instagram bio has since been updated to reflect her passing: “Logging out from the world. Setting off on a new journey. All business collaborations are suspended.”
While her cause of death has not been confirmed, concerns had been raised throughout her time online. Some viewers had begged her to stop eating makeup, citing health risks, per The Sun.
One fan wrote: “Please don’t promote the act of eating make-up.” Another warned: “It’s still toxic; be careful.” Despite the backlash, others celebrated her creativity and uniqueness, calling her content “harmless fun” and “refreshingly different.”
Guava herself had acknowledged the potential influence of her videos, including warnings on her content asking children under six not to watch or copy her actions.
Her passing has left fans shocked and saddened, with many remembering her as a bold, creative force in the digital world. As tributes pour in, her legacy remains a complex but memorable chapter in the evolving story of internet culture.
