Jay Leno shows off ‘brand new face’ on Kelly Clarkson’s talk show three months after suffering third-degree burns

After suffering multiple freak accidents in just a few short months, Jay Leno is back, and this time with a “brand new face.”

The comedian made an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show where he talked about the extensive injuries he endured following a gasoline explosion and a motorcycle accident.

“You’d think there’d be a zipper here or something, but no,” he said while pointing to his face. “Only for the second time in my career am I the new face of comedy. I got it once in the ’80s and now I get it again. This is a brand-new ear.”

In November the 72-year-old former Tonight Show host was involved in a horrific vehicle fire.

He was working on one of his many vintage cars when a fuel leak triggered an explosion. Leno suffered third-degree burns on his face, chest, and hands.

“The fuel line was clogged so I was underneath it. It sounded clogged and I said, ‘Blow some air through the line,'” Leno told the Today show’s Hoda Kotb shortly after the accident.

“And suddenly, boom, I got a face full of gas. And then the pilot light jumped and my face caught on fire.”

Leno had been working alongside his friend Dave Killackey, and he credits Killackey for his quick-thinking for saving his life.

“And I said to my friend, I said, ‘Dave, I’m on fire.’ And Dave’s like, ‘All right.’ I said, ‘No, Dave, I’m on fire.’ And then, ‘Oh, my God.’ Dave, my friend, pulled me out and jumped on top of me and kind of smothered the fire.”

It was a pleasure caring for Jay Leno, and we wish him a speedy recovery!

Leno spent 10 days in the hospital where he underwent reconstructive surgery as well as another procedure.

His doctor said while he sustained “significant injuries,” the comedian managed to handle the recovery process “very well.”

However less than two months later, once again Leno found himself in need of medical attention when he was involved in a freak motorcycle accident.

“So I turned down a side street and cut through a parking lot, and unbeknownst to me, some guy had a wire strung across the parking lot but with no flag hanging from it,” he told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “So, you know, I didn’t see it until it was too late. It just clothesline me and, boom, knocked me off the bike.”

“The bike kept going, and you know how that works out.”

He suffered a broken collarbone, two broken ribs, and two cracked kneecaps.

It’s no wonder Leno joked about debuting his “brand new face” on Clarkson’s talk show.

During his appearance, three nurses who treated Leno joined the comedian and Clarkson on the talk show and they were all surprised with a vacation to the Bahamas.

It’s incredible how good Jay Leno looks for being involved in those two recent horrific accidents! Hopefully that’s the last of them for him.
