Vice President JD Vance may have a lot on his plate, but the internet seems fixated on one thing: his eyes. Specifically, the ongoing debate about whether or not he wears eyeliner.
Despite repeated denials — including from his wife, Usha Vance — rumors about Vance’s allegedly enhanced lash line just won’t go away. And with every new public appearance, social media erupts with fresh jokes and speculation.
The eyeliner conspiracy
JD Vance’s striking blue eyes and appearance started gaining attention when rumors swirled that he might become vice president. Even Donald Trump couldn’t resist commenting on his running mate’s looks — and he didn’t hold back.
”He looks like a young Abraham Lincoln,” Trump said in an interview on Fox News.
But lately, it’s JD Vance’s eyelashes — and whether they’ve had a little enhancement— that have been stealing the spotlight.
Usha Vance previously told Puck News that her husband’s dramatic lashes are “all natural,” adding, “I’ve always been jealous of those lashes.”
Even former congressman George Santos chimed in last year, insisting Vance isn’t wearing makeup. “I’ve met him in person before he was a senator, and I can confirm he has long eyelashes. They cast a shadow on his waterline when in studios full of lights,” Santos posted on X in October 2024.
But social media remains unconvinced. “Yes, he does,” one person responded to Santos. “Is it from Sephora or Ulta?”
Emo vibes and Maybelline jokes
During a recent meeting with President Donald Trump and Irish leader Micheál Martin, Vance’s eyeliner discourse flared up yet again. Journalist Aaron Rupar shared a clip of Vance speaking and joked, “JD Vance went heavy on the eyeliner this morning.”
That comment sparked an avalanche of reactions. “He’s in his emo phase,” one user quipped. Another asked, “Why does this dude look like he’s always about to break out into an emo song?”
The beauty jokes kept rolling in. “Maybelline called and said they’ve had to ramp up eyeliner production to keep up with JD Vance’s demand,” one person tweeted.
Even after Vance was booed at the Kennedy Center on March 13, someone cracked, “People probably have the same reaction when Vance walks into movies, restaurants, and the eyeliner section at Sephora.”
Critics or just jealous?
Of course, many of these jokes come from Vance’s critics, but some have taken a different stance — arguing that people are just envious. “They’re just jealous of his great eyes,” one defender commented.
So, does JD Vance really wear eyeliner? Or is he just blessed with naturally bold lashes? Either way, the internet isn’t ready to drop this one anytime soon.
