Kathy Bates proves age is just a number at 77

So many accomplished actors can be narcissistic divas, but Kathy Bates exudes gratitude and humility.

The actress so often speaks of other people and not just herself – she’s a real observer of people.

Now, it’s time to focus on Kathy herself.

Captivating fans at 77

I read a comment somewhere that said that Kathy Bates is like America’s Judi Dench and I couldn’t agree more.

But this wonderful isn’t just a brilliant actress — she’s a fighter at heart, having survived ovarian cancer in 2003 and breast cancer in 2012.

And at 77, the Oscar-winning actress is proving that age is truly just a number. She’s probably one of the few actors that looks better as herself than her characters and at this age.

The star captivated fans during awards season not with a red-carpet scandal, but through the magic of a hairstylist’s Instagram posts, showing her looking radiant, confident, and utterly unforgettable.

Celebrity hairstylist Marcus Francis shared two posts featuring Bates, sparking an online wave of admiration.

The first, from January 11, highlighted her look at the AARP Awards, while the second, from January 12, showcased her stunning Golden Globes appearance.

”The legendary Kathy Bates for the @aarp awards. Nothing like hot rollers for a sculpted shape and volume ✨ Hair by me, Makeup @stephensollitt Styling @deborahafshani,” Francis captioned the first post.

Fans immediately flooded the comments. “Always loved her in all her incarnations, but wow, she’s blooming anew right now! Go Kathy!” one wrote.

Another chimed in, “Now that’s how you properly do a facelift ❤️❤️❤️.” And yet another asked, “Filter or surgery?”

At the AARP event in Beverly Hills, Bates looked effortlessly elegant in a crisp white blazer, her silver hair swept back in soft waves, paired with diamond jewelry that caught the light. A photo of her smiling alongside George Clooney added a touch of Hollywood glamour, showing the star’s warm, magnetic presence.

The Golden Globes a day later confirmed the buzz.

Bates arrived in an off-the-shoulder navy lace gown over a nude base, cinched with a wide bow, her hair perfectly styled back and a sparkling necklace completing the look. Fans were awestruck.

”I’ve never heard of anyone who has had a glow-up to transcendental beauty in their 70s….until now. Stunning. 😍 🤩”

”Kathy Bates looks better than she did twenty years ago!”

”OMG! Kathy Bates looked incredible! That dress was everything and looked stunning. You are living proof of aging beautifully!”

Ozempic rumors

Behind the glow, Bates’ transformation is the result of years of dedication.

In October 2024, she shared with People that her remarkable weight loss — 80 pounds over seven years through diet and lifestyle changes, plus an additional 20 pounds with Ozempic — was hard-earned.

”There’s been a lot of talk that I just was able to do this because of Ozempic,” she said. ”But I have to impress upon people out there that this was hard work for me, especially during the pandemic. It’s very hard to say you’ve had enough.”

Her journey began after a type 2 diabetes diagnosis in 2017, which she described as a wake-up call.

”I ate because I was afraid, and I ate because it was a FU to my self-esteem. [Diabetes] runs in my family, and I’d seen what my father had gone through. He had had a leg amputation. One of my sisters is dealing with it very seriously, and it terrified me. It scared me straight.”

Eating habits

A key turning point, she said, was advice from her niece: listen to your body.

”When we’re full, we experience an involuntary sigh,” Bates explained. “I just pushed the plate away.”

She also changed her eating habits drastically, cutting out late-night meals and focusing on consistency.

”I used to eat terribly: burgers and Cokes and pizza,” she admitted. ”I have a treadmill here at the house, and I might try Pilates.”

Even on set for the CBS Matlock reboot, Bates maintained her routine, building stamina for physically demanding scenes.

”Physically, I’m capable of doing this show,” she said. ”I don’t have to sit down. I can stand up all day long and walk and move and breathe and do so many things that I couldn’t before.”

Yet the most emotional moment came when she tried on a dress for the reboot:

”She had a beautiful dress for me to try. I looked at it on the hanger, and I thought, ‘That’s not gonna fit.’ I put it on, and it fit, and I just melted down,” Bates recalled. ”I just started crying and crying.”

She reflected on the personal transformation, both physically and emotionally:

”I’m still figuring out what it’s like to be without all of that weight. What was it for? What was I hiding myself from? What are the emotions that are pouring out because I don’t have that armor? It just really surprised me, really shocked me.”

Kathy Bates is as real and down to earth as it gets. She’s the type of person you could sit down and have a coffee with, and never run out of conversation! Share this article if you also adore this brilliant actress!
