On Thursday night Kevin Bacon appeared on the late-night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live. He shared that it had been 35 years since he had tied the knot with his wife Kyra. To anyone listening, 35 years usually means a lot of time and hence puts you in a place where you are able to give advice.
Similarly, people Bacon knows personally are also amazed at the longevity of their marriage. Bacon said about his marriage, “That’s a lot of years.”
He shared, “People feel a tremendous amount of excitement. Everybody wants to ask us about the secret [to a long-lasting marriage], which I absolutely refuse to answer.”

The actor had some interesting remarks to make. He said, “I mean look, marriage, let’s face it, it doesn’t work,” Bacon said teasingly. “How many people stay married? Nobody.”
The 64-year-old then made a comment that made everyone laugh. He said if he were ever to give some advice to people who asked him about the secret to a long marriage, he would simply say, “I would say the one thing you don’t want to do is take a celebrity’s advice on how to stay married.”
Bacon has maintained his position for a while now. In a 2017 interview with Closer Weekly he said something along the same lines, “That’s a question I refuse to answer anymore, but there are a few things you don’t want to do if you want a long marriage,” but he added, “one is to leave the toilet seat up, and another is to say, ‘I told you so.’”
The actor became candid about fatherhood and what it felt like being first-time parent. He shared, “We got pregnant on the honeymoon. She was 23 and I was 30,” he said. “When we had our son, Trav, we were here in L.A… We didn’t know anything. We knew nothing about raising a kid. I feel like we were children ourselves.”
The 64-year-old recalled a grave error he made when his first child was only four days old. He accidentally locked him in the car. He said, “We had rented a car… I was scattered, I wasn’t really thinking… pulled up to the valet at the hotel, jumped out of the car, slammed the door, car still running, keys in the car, windows up, baby’s still in the car.” Adding, “To say I lost my sh– is an understatement.”
However, the valet helped Bacon out. He wrapped a towel around his fist and punched through a window of the car to help him get his baby out.
