Larry Nassar, disgraced U.S. gymnastics doctor, stabbed multiple times in Florida prison

Larry Nassar, the former U.S. gymnastics team doctor, was stabbed multiple times during an altercation with another inmate at a federal prison in Florida, according to the Associated Press.

Two unnamed sources told the AP the attack happened Sunday at the United States Penitentiary Coleman. As of Monday he was in stable condition.

One of the sources stated Nassar had been stabbed in the back and chest.

Neither of the sources were authorized to disclose details of the attack and spoke to the AP on the condition of anonymity.

Nassar is currently serving decades in prison after being convicted in both state and federal courts.

In December 2017, the disgraced doctor pleaded guilty to possessing and receiving child pornography. In January 2018, he pleaded guilty to sexually abusing minors, including Olympic medalists.

CHARLOTTE, MI – FEBRUARY 05: Larry Nassar stands as he is sentenced by Judge Janice Cunningham for three counts of criminal sexual assault in Eaton County Circuit Court on February 5, 2018 in Charlotte, Michigan. Nassar has been accused of sexually assaulting more than 150 girls and young women while he was a physician for USA Gymnastics and Michigan State University. Cunningham sentenced Nassar to 40 to 125 years in prison. He is currently serving a 60-year sentence in federal prison for possession of child pornography. At the time of his sentencing, Michigan Judge Janice Cunningham told Nassar there was no hope for him.

“I am not convinced you truly understand what you did is wrong and the devastating impact you have had on the victims, their families and friends,” Cunningham said.

“You are a doctor. You took an oath to do no harm and you harmed over 256 women, and that is beyond comprehension,” she said.
