Patrick Clancy, ex-husband of Lindsay Clancy, offered a gut-wrenching admission about his three late children in his first on-camera interview since their murders.
On January 24, 2023, the 38-year-old was out picking up medication and take-out dinner when his then-wife allegedly killed the couple’s children – Cora, five; Dawson, three; and eight-month-old Callan. She then reportedly tried to die by suicide, but survived a fall from a 20-foot window.
Lindsay’s resulting trial – which saw the former Massachusetts labor and delivery nurse charged with three counts of first-degree murder – recently ended in a mistrial, after one member of the jury refused to acquit her. The other 11 were ready to find her not guilty by reason of insanity.
Lindsay’s defense did not attempt to argue that she had not committed the murders, but rather that she was suffering from severe postpartum psychosis and auditory hallucinations, rendering her legally insane and unable to distinguish right from wrong. As such, they argued a defense of not guilty by reason of insanity.
Defense attorney Kevin Reddington said 11 of the 12 jurors had voted to acquit Clancy, when he spoke outside Plymouth Superior Court. As such, he placed full blame for the mistrial on a single male juror who allegedly wouldn’t apply the legal standard of reasonable doubt.
“Clancy was robbed by this man,” Reddington told a reporter and pointed out how the other jurors knew they’d been robbed by this one person, whatever his reasoning, after seven weeks of attentive service.
Lindsay’s ex-husband, Patrick, who has since remarried, sat down with 60 Minutes for his first interview since the trial, revealing that he still speaks to his three deceased children “all the time”.
“I talk to them,” he told CBS correspondent Ross Douthat. When asked what he says to them, Patrick replied: “‘Help me.’ All the time.”
Patrick himself, now living in New York, became the subject of internet conspiracy theories relating to his possible involvement in the killings, despite the fact that surveillance video, phone tracking, and GPS data confirmed he was away from their family home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, on the night his children lost their lives.
Speaking to Boston 25 News, Patrick’s lawyer, Howard Cooper said: “Over the past months, Patrick Clancy and his family have been subjected to a relentless, escalating and destructive defamation campaign.
“This campaign of misinformation has been launched and promoted by minor celebrities, so-called influencers and outright conspiracy theorists who appear intent on boosting their own social media profiles and potential profit by publishing what they know to be outright falsehoods that Patrick was somehow involved in the death of his young children and other vile claims.”
The lawyer further added that they are not ruling out the idea of pursuing legal action against those who have fueled the false narrative that Patrick was involved in some way with the deaths of his children.
