Christian Brueckner, the man German authorities suspect is behind the 2007 disappearance of Madeleine McCann, has written a disturbing letter from behind bars in which he sneers at investigators and declares they’ll never find any evidence linking him to the case.
The 48-year-old convicted rapist, currently serving time in a German prison for attacking a 72-year-old woman, appears to mock the investigation in a vile note obtained by The Sun. “Is there a body? No, no no,” he wrote, dismissing the entire case against him with a chilling lack of remorse.
Christian Brueckner, the man officially named as a suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann for the past five years, is speaking out — and what he’s saying is sending chills down spines.
From behind bars, the convicted sex offender has doubled down on his confidence that the case against him will collapse, claiming prosecutors have nothing solid.
“You don’t have to be a realist like me to predict that the accusations made against me will not hold up and that the investigation will be dropped,” he declared in a newly released statement.
But it’s not just what he’s saying — it’s how he’s saying it. In a series of eerie letters, Brueckner appears to flaunt his understanding of the German legal system, hinting that he knows exactly how to manipulate it.
”Is there a body/corpse?”
“You know, of course, that in Germany you don’t have to prove your innocence as a suspect, but that the public prosecutor’s office has to prove that you are clearly guilty,” he wrote.
“Even the slightest doubt leads to an acquittal, if there is a court hearing at all.”
The letter comes just days after German and Portuguese authorities wrapped up another search near Praia da Luz, the resort town where Madeleine was last seen 18 years ago. Brueckner lived in the area at the time and remains the lead suspect in the long-running investigation.
With his sentence set to end in September, investigators are under pressure to bring new charges before his release. Though Brueckner denies any involvement, authorities remain convinced of his guilt and are scrambling to prove it.

The handwritten message lays bare Brueckner’s confidence that police have nothing on him. In it, he boldly questions: “Are there other traces/DNA carriers of the injured party in my possession? Photos? And, not to forget, is there a body/corpse? All no, no no.”
He even boasts that the case against him “will not hold up and that the investigation will be dropped.”
Despite repeated efforts, no concrete evidence — such as DNA, photos, or a body —has been recovered that definitively ties Brueckner to the British toddler’s disappearance. Last week’s police dig near Portugal’s Praia da Luz was initially met with skepticism.
After three grueling days of combing through rugged terrain, authorities appeared to leave empty-handed. But now, German prosecutors have dropped a bombshell: fragments uncovered during the search are undergoing forensic testing — and they could finally tie longtime suspect Christian Brueckner to Madeleine’s 2007 disappearance.
“Very constructive”
The high-stakes operation was conducted in a remote area nicknamed Brueckner’s “rat run,” where the 38-year-old convicted sex offender is believed to have camped in the past. Among the discoveries: pieces of clothing, suspicious bone fragments, and even two rusty old firearms.
Initially, reports suggested the bones found were likely animal remains. But officials aren’t taking any chances.

“We’ve been told very little, but we also found a number of bones, most likely not human, and some bone fragments, all sent to Germany, where a forensic check will be undertaken by specialists,” a source told The Olive Press.
The joint German-Portuguese operation has been labeled “very constructive” by Hans Christian Wolters, the lead prosecutor in Braunschweig. That rare note of optimism comes after years of anguish, false leads, and frustration for the McCann family and investigators alike.
Guns, bones, and rising hopes
In a twist that could prove critical, two guns were reportedly found during the dig—though their connection to Brueckner remains uncertain.
“In total we found two guns, but we don’t know if they are related to Christian Brueckner or his offences,” the source continued.
With forensic analysis now underway in Germany, the world is once again watching and waiting — hoping this latest breakthrough might finally bring answers in one of the most haunting child disappearances of our time.
