Former Disney Channel star Caroline Sunshine is being floated as a possible replacement for Karoline Leavitt as White House Press Secretary.
Karoline Leavitt stepped down as White House Press Secretary back in August. Donald Trump announced her departure on Truth Social, and Leavitt followed with her own statement on X, calling it a “bittersweet decision.”
“The truth is since returning to the White House after the birth of my daughter, I have felt in my heart that I cannot be the best mom my two young children deserve while devoting the constant time, energy, and attention required of the White House Press Secretary,” she wrote.
Since then speculation has run rampant over who will take over the role. Trump has been photographed regularly with executive assistant Natalie “The Printer” Harp, fueling rumors she could step into the job.
A new name enters the long list of suggested candidates
Reports suggest Trump isn’t in any rush to fill the position, but names like CNN pundit Scott Jennings, acting US Attorney Alina Habba, and former Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo have all been floated.
Principal Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly and senior campaign adviser Danielle Alvarez have also come up.
One of the more unexpected names circulating is Caroline Sunshine, who is a former Disney Channel actress. Sunshine got her start as an intern for Kevin McCarthy, joined Trump’s first White House in 2018 and worked as an assistant in the press office. She’s now 31 and a familiar face on cable news.
A source told the Daily Mail that both Sunshine and another contender are effectively “auditioning” for the role. However, apparently “the president has not expressed real interest in either of them,” which is allegedly obvious to people inside the White House.
Sunshine‘s response
Not everyone close to Trump is excited about Sunshine. One adviser reportedly warned against choosing her, citing a moment in 2025 when she publicly criticized US-Israel strikes on Iran, writing on X at the time, “I don’t agree with President Trump’s decision tonight.”
When asked about the speculation herself, Sunshine didn’t hold back.
“White House officials are spending their days tracking my TV hits, tweets, and hairstyles? Perhaps if the White House was 100 percent focused on correcting the fake news about the President, he’d be getting better press. Get back to work.”
