Some may find the details of this story disturbing.
A mother in Kansas City, Missouri has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of her one-month-old daughter.
According to a press release, Mariah Thomas, 26, “accidentally placed the child in the oven instead of the crib.”
Police were called to Thomas’ home Friday after receiving a report about a child who wasn’t breathing.
When they arrived they discovered the one-month-old girl in her car seat covered in burns and her “blackened” clothing melted to her diaper.
DailyMail reported the child’s grandfather received a call from Thomas earlier that afternoon stating, “something was wrong with the baby and he needed to return home immediately.”
When he returned home he smelled smoke and found the child in her crib, dead.
Thomas confessed that she “accidentally” placed her baby in the oven instead of her crib while putting her down for a nap.
The 26-year-old has been charged with a Class A felony of endangering the welfare of a child in the 1st degree, death of a child. If convicted she could face 10 years to life in prison.
This is absolutely horrible. We hope justice is served.
