Newlyweds forced to wear resort clothing after Delta loses luggage

A newlywed man was forced to wear Sandals resort gear during part of his honeymoon after Delta Airlines lost his suitcase.

Shane Hasty, 32, embarked on an eight-day honeymoon at a couples-only retreat in St. Lucia on June 3, as reported by the Daily Mail. Hasty and his new wife, Bailey Jehl, reached their destination, but unfortunately, his luggage did not arrive with them.

Jehl shared their experience in a humorous TikTok video, explaining the situation.

“When we got into Saint Lucia, we had no idea what was going on, so we were just going back and forth with the airport customs for hours,” Jehl said per the New York Post. Due to the delay, the couple missed their entire first day in St. Lucia before they finally decided to check in at the Sandals Grande St. Lucian Resort. To make up for the missing suitcase, Hasty went on a “shopping spree” at the resort’s branded shop.

“He has no toiletries, he has no underwear,” Jehl explained in her TikTok video, which showed her husband shirtless and grabbing shirts emblazoned with the Sandals logo. Hasty had to make do with the resort-branded gear, and Jehl documented clips of him wearing a distinctive branded polo in the resort dining room.

“It felt like I was walking around with a hotel employee when he had his hotel merch on,” Jehl joked with her followers. Hasty even admitted to going without underwear for a few days, as none were available in nearby stores.

Hasty’s noticeable outfits caught the attention of a resort staffer, who approached the couple and asked if he was “the Sandals guy from TikTok,” Jehl claimed. Despite the humor, the couple found it hard to overlook the missing luggage, which contained about $4,000 worth of Hasty’s belongings.

“There were thousands of dollars [worth of items] in his bag and this was not good enough,” Jehl said of Delta’s response to the lost suitcase. “Shane had brought all of his best clothes – all of his medication, contact lenses, toiletries, and his underwear,” she added.

The missing luggage hindered their plans, as they couldn’t hike or participate in certain activities without the proper gear. Jehl mentioned that her husband received “funny looks” from other vacationers due to his resort attire.

“It definitely put our honeymoon on hold for three days,” she lamented. Hasty was also concerned about the possibility of never seeing his suitcase and its contents again. “When I get back from my honeymoon, I am going straight on a work trip, so I was thinking about whether I would have clothes for [it],” he explained.

After three days of frustration, the couple tracked the suitcase to the Dallas airport, where staff claimed Delta never put the luggage on their flight to the Caribbean. “My mother-in-law finally got someone on the phone in Atlanta, which was where our layover was,” Jehl said. She managed to locate the suitcase, which had been stuck in Dallas, and get it sent to them. “We think Delta were the ones responsible for losing the bag,” she explained.

After three long days, the luggage finally arrived at the couple’s hotel room. In a third clip set to the My Heart Will Go On flute music, Jehl shared the moment of relief. “It’s here, baby!” the groom sighed.

The couple plans to file a formal complaint against Delta upon their return to the US. “Delta teams are looking into what occurred and have contacted them in an effort to make this right. We are sorry to hear of this disruption to their honeymoon plans,” a spokesperson for the airline told The Post Thursday.

What did you think of this? Clearly the newlyweds have a great sense of humor!
