Six months before his death Presley Gerber spoke candidly regarding his experience with a controversial psychedelic treatment used to help people overcome addiction.
Presley, 27, the son of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, died on September 20.
According to PEOPLE, citing records from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, he was at a rehabilitation facility at the time of his death. Meanwhile, the Santa Monica Police Department have shared that his death is being looked into as a suspected overdose.
Gerber had been checked in for treatment at the rehabilitation facility Resolutions Living the same weekend he was pronounced dead, per Page Six.
The Medical Examiner said: “Death was pronounced at 09:45 hours on September 20, 2026, by responding paramedics. The Santa Monica Police Department is the investigating law enforcement agency.
“At this time, there is no indication of foul play. The official cause and manner of death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. The investigation remains ongoing.”
In recent years, Presley had spoken openly about struggles in his personal life, discussing his mental health, depression, substance abuse, and recovery, while using his social media platforms to talk about the difficulties he had faced.
In a 2025 Instagram video, Presley said he wanted to surround himself with positive influences and hoped opening up about his experiences could help others feel less alone. He also described his mental health struggles as “really bad.”
Earlier this year in March, Presley shared a video of himself in Cancun, Mexico, standing beside a woman who rubbed her hands together before placing them on his chest and passing them over his body.
“Pre Ibogaine Flood Dose – quiet moment before everything changed,” he wrote.
“I was absolutely terrified, and I knew I would be again if I ever had to face something like this (helps to not go into the situations you do that get ya there but that’s life sometimes.)
“My mantras were love yourself and lis gotta be the last time for this reason. letting go of control didn’t come easy, but I trusted there was something bigger than me guiding it. I knew why i was there.
“I faced what I had been running from, and somewhere in all of it, i started finding my way back to myself …. We shall see…”
Presley added: “Praying it’s the last time I have to come back. Next time I’d like to choose. And absolutely can’t forget the incredible caring kind and on their s**t team. Helps a lot haha. And I made some dope a** friends there.”
Ibogaine is a naturally occurring psychoactive substance that derives from an African shrub.It has long been used to decrease opioid cravings and treat severe depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms.
The compound is not licensed for use in the US, though is used as an anti-addiction medication in alternative medicine at other clinics worldwide. This includes certain specialized clinics and retreats in Mexico, where Presley was.
Treatments at the Beond Ibogaine clinic in Cancun – which treated Presley – reportedly start at $12,500 for a ten-day programme.
