Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother is missing, and police suspect she was snatched from her bed and abducted in her Tucson home.
New details reveal that Guthrie’s sister may have been the last person to see their now-missing mom.
A chilling and mysterious case is gripping the nation.
Today show host Savannah Guthrie’s mother, 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, is believed to have been abducted from her Tucson home while she slept, Arizona authorities revealed Monday.
“I believe she was abducted, yes,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told CBS.
The case has rocked the community, and what started as a desperate search has now escalated into a potential criminal investigation. Police described what they found at Nancy’s house as “concerning.”
The search has involved drones, search dogs, volunteers, Border Patrol, and even homicide officials, a rare step for a missing persons case.
“I can’t think of the last time where in the middle of the night in someone’s bed, an 84-year-old woman disappeared on us,” he added to NBC.

Nancy was officially reported missing around noon on Sunday when she didn’t show up for church, but Sheriff Nanos noted that the “starting point” of the investigation actually goes back to an earlier.
“The family took her home from dinner at about 9:30 to 9:45 on Saturday, January 31. So we would back that up to even say 9 or 8:30 p.m. to start looking,” he told US Weekly.
Savannah Guthrie’s sister is believed to be the last person to see their now-missing mom just hours before she was allegedly taken, according to reports.
Annie Guthrie told Arizona authorities she didn’t notice “any red flags” while having dinner with 84-year-old Nancy on January 31, before Nancy returned to her million-dollar Catalina Foothills home, US Weekly reports.
Cannot walk 50 yards on her own
Nancy, who cannot walk 50 yards on her own and relies on life-saving medication, left her cell phone, car, and wallet behind. DNA was recovered at the home and sent to a Phoenix lab, though results could take several days, Nanos said.
Police warned that Nancy is “not in good physical health” and may have been exposed to cold weather overnight.
“She has been missing for almost 48 hours, and timing is very critical,” Nanos warned. “The longer this goes on, the more danger she faces.”

However, Sheriff Nanos emphasized her mental sharpness: “She has no cognitive issues at all. She’s very alert, of good, sound mind. Just some physical ailments that limit her ability to move around.”
Savannah Guthrie did not appear on Monday’s “Today” show but shared a heartfelt post on Instagram:
“We believe in prayer. We believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope. We believe in goodness. We believe in humanity. Above all, we believe in Him,” she wrote alongside a photo reading, “Please pray.”

“Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant. Raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment,” she added.
Authorities have asked neighbors to check any surveillance footage that might help in the search.
