Steve Irwin’s wife gives heartbreaking update 19 years after his death

Steve Irwin’s widow Terri has given a look into the reality of life without the iconic conservationist almost twenty years after his passing.

Steve, affectionately known as the “Crocodile Hunter”, rose to international fame through his jaw-dropping on-screen exploits and commitment to raising awareness for wildlife conservation.

At 44 years old, the Australian died after being injured by a stingray in September 2006, prompting tributes and mourning across the globe.

For his fans, it’s difficult to accept that he’s been gone for almost two decades. For his immediate family, consisting of wife Terri and the couple’s children, Robert and Bindi, his loss is a heartache that will never truly go away.

Since his passing, they’ve worked tirelessly to continue his important work, managing Australia Zoo and promoting conservation efforts.

In a new interview with Australia’s 10 News, Terri has opened up on the heartbreak of life without her late husband, admitting that she still experiences unexpected moments of sadness.

Speaking with reporter Angela Bishop, who lost her own partner to cancer in 2017, Terri, 61, said: “Sometimes you have to search for something and it’s hard, but we worked at it.”

She continued: “Steve forever will never be older than 44, in any photo.

“Here I am 61,” she continued. “And here’s this little spunky guy. It’s hard… He did that die young, stay pretty.”

Terri never remarried after Steve’s passing. She previously told Stellar Magazine that she hasn’t sought another romance as she had already found her “happy ever after”.

“I’m sure there’s a lot of lovely people out there in the world, but I did find my happily ever after, and I think I still have a lot of love in my life,” Terri said.

“I’m lonely for Steve, but I’m not lonely. I never mourn being on my own and not being in a relationship. I think we need to say that.”

Today, Terri serves as the sole owner and chairwoman of Australia Zoo. Robert and Bindi Irwin, meanwhile, have carved out their own careers as conservationists and TV personalities, simultaneously achieving success and honoring their father’s memory.
