As the figurehead of a country, the Queen would often address the general public.
During her many addresses to the public on special occasions, she would often refer to Jesus. Focusing on his examples that she thought her public could learn from.
After the death of Queen Elizabeth II was announced to the world officially, of course, the United Kingdom went into a prolonged period of mourning but the rest of the world also joined in on the grieving too.
During her long life and historic reign, the Queen set a lot of examples. She broke a lot of long-held traditions and arguably ushered the monarchy into the more modernized version we are used to seeing today.
One of the most famous traditions she broke was after the September 11 attacks in 2001. On September 12, 2001, during the Changing of the Guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace, when the British national anthem is usually played, the Queen had the American national anthem played. It was out of respect for the American people going through a tough time, that she had the ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ play in the background and apparently even joined in on the singing. Witnesses said, “when ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ was played in the cathedral, she joined in (the singing) and was later seen wiping a tear from her eye.”
But even with all the major changes made to the monarchy over a period of time, one thing remained the same; the Queen’s strong Christian faith.
The Queen often cited examples of Jesus in her addresses to the public. In her Christmas broadcast in the year 2000, she said, “In his early thirties, He was arrested, tortured and crucified with two criminals. His death might have been the end of the story, but then came the resurrection and with it the foundation of the Christian faith.”
The Queen was not shy of her faith and would often invoke remembrance of Jesus Christ when talking to the public. As the world shut down amid the coronavirus pandemic, in March 2020, she made her Easter address to the public, reminding them to take comfort in Christ during the unexpected times the world was facing.
People have often commended the Queen’s faith in Christianity and praised her for it.
