Tyler Perry building home for 93-year-old woman being ‘pushed out’ of property family owned since Civil War

If you’ve followed the career of Tyler Perry for any length of time, you’ll be well aware that he’s got a track record of being a good guy.

Well, it turns out the actor and filmmaker is at it again, this time coming to the aid of a 93-year-old who claims she’s in the process of being “force[d] off the land” owned by her family since the days of the Civil War.

According to reports, the woman in question, Josephine Wright, is locked in a legal fight with developers Bailey Point Investment LLC, who are carrying out plans to construct 147 three-story townhouses in the area where Josephine lives.

TMZ say Perry first got wind of Josephine’s plight earlier this year in July. Bailey Point were vying to buy the 93-year-old’s land in Hilton Head, South Carolina to make room for the aforementioned properties.

Only, Josephine had no intention of selling, not least because the land has been in her family for numerous generations. As a result, BP filed a lawsuit to seize control of her property.

Needless to say, Josephine was left distraught… and facing the serious possibility of losing her home.

In an effort to fight the lawsuit, Josephine’s family set up a GoFundMe page to her cover the cost of her legal fees, and she’s attracted support from all corners, including from Tyler Perry, who shared her story on his Instagram, writing:

“‘I’ve pretty much been a fighter all my life’ said 93 year old Josephine Wright. Well, that makes two of us. Ms. Wright, please tell where to show up and what you need to help you fight.”

Not only that, but TMZ now say that Perry is building Josephine a five-bedroom home in South Carolina to replace the one she’s living in with her grandchildren.

The construction crew is supposedly ready to break ground on the new home in the next few weeks, though are currently waiting for the necessary permits to be finalized.

Last month, Josephine’s family wrote on the GoFundMe page that a tree had fallen through the roof of her home.

“After we had an amazing weekend celebrating and honoring Grandma Josephine in Bluffton at the Roots & Rivers Festival and through a powerful yoga session at her home on Sunday, the tree decided to give up and give in,” the page said.

“Grandma Josephine wasn’t home and luckily, no human was injured. I can’t say the same for the house. She sustained 2 holes in her roof.”

We’re wishing the best for Grandma Josephine moving forward! And props to Tyler Perry for helping out! If you found this story interesting, check out the one below for more great content:
