What Donald Trump said in ‘despicable’ posts after JFK’s granddaughter’s death

Donald Trump earlier this week took aim at the Kennedy family with a string of social media posts published just hours after the passing of Tatiana Schlossberg was confirmed.

Schlossberg, the daughter of Caroline Kennedy and granddaughter of the late President John F Kennedy, lost her battle with acute myeloid leukaemia on December 30, 2024.

Her family announced the news on social media, leading to an outpouring of love and support. “Our beautiful Tatiana passed away this morning. She will always be in our hearts,” read the post, signed by “George, Edwin and Josephine Moran, Ed, Caroline, Jack, Rose and Rory.”

While the rest of the world might have been inclined to offer the Kennedy family nothing but support, President Donald Trump favored a different approach, penning several disparaging posts about them on Truth Social.

Trump’s feud with the Kennedys has spanned several weeks, peaking when the president moved to rename the Kennedy Center the Trump-Kennedy Center.

The center was originally given its name as a memorial to JFK following his assassination in Dallas, Texas, in 1963.

“The Kennedy Center is a living memorial to a fallen president and named for President Kennedy by federal law,” argued Joe Kennedy III, grandson of former Sen. Robert F. Kennedy.

“It can no sooner be renamed than can someone rename the Lincoln Memorial, no matter what anyone says.”

Trump, it appears, hasn’t forgiven nor forgotten those comments. On Tuesday he reposted a number of damning remarks from his followers on his own social media platform, Truth Social.

One such post read: “The Kennedy Family have LONG neglected the Kennedy Center, btw. They don’t raise money for it. They never show up. And the only Kennedy who has been there recently is a member of Trump’s cabinet.”

Another stated: “The Trumps have always been supporters of the arts. The Kennedys are supporters of the Kennedys.”

Trump didn’t specifically name the recently-deceased Tatiana in his flurry of posts, but online users took umbrage at his timing all the same.

On X account wrote: “Just hours after Caroline Kennedy’s daughter, Tatiana Schlossberg, tragically died, Donald Trump has launched a series of social media attacks against her family. RETWEET if you stand with @CarolineKennedy against these despicable attacks!”

CNN anchor Jake Tapper meanwhile slammed President Trump, labeling the posts a “stunning display of cruelty” and “social media garbage.”
