King Charles and Prince Harry’s relationship has been notoriously strained for years. Sadly, the issues appeared to begin when Harry was a young boy – according to the Duke himself, his father even made a cruel joke about him on the day he was born.
Naturally all that Harry has said about the Royal Family since his 2020 exit has failed to improve things, and these days his father, brother, Prince William, and sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, are said to be furious with him.
Harry and Meghan’s trip to Nigeria in May reportedly put even more wood on the fire; according to a new report, King Charles was seen angrier than people had ever seen him. However, while the feud seems to have no end in sight, one thing could be the key for Harry and Charles to make amends once and for all. Now, a source close to the monarch reveals what…
Prince Harry’s book Spare changed everything for him, his wife, and the royals. His relationship with his Royal Family deteriorated even further after the book was released, as he revealed many things about the monarchy that had never seen the light of day.
Prince Harry – tell-all memoir Spare
The Royal Family has made no comment on the book’s content, but Harry previously revealed that he had to cut nearly half of the material from the first draft.
“The first draft was different,” he told The Telegraph. “It was 800 pages, and now it’s down to 400 pages. It could have been two books, put it that way. And the hard bit was taking things out.”
The Duke also revealed that certain bits of content were removed from Spare as they would cause the rift between him and his brother and his father to become even more toxic.
“There are some things that have happened, especially between me and my brother, and to some extent between me and my father, that I just don’t want the world to know,” Harry said. “Because I don’t think they would ever forgive me.”
Reports of Harry possibly writing a second book began only days after Spare was published. Royal expert Tom Quinn argued that the decision to publish a second book would see an “end to Harry’s relationship” with his family.
The same goes for former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond, who stated that the Palace doors would be “slammed” shut if a second book was ever published.
“I can’t imagine that Harry would contemplate a follow up to Spare. He has indicated that he wants to move on: he has said his piece, vented his anger and faced the consequences,” Bond said.
Prince Harry could release second book after King Charles’ passing, expert claims
“I don’t believe for a moment that he will revisit his grievances in a second book. There might be one about his work, or Invictus or the joys of parenthood but not about his issues with the past.”
The former BBC royal correspondent added: “If he did go there, then I am sure the response would be a continued dignified silence and a resounding crash as the Palace doors slammed on any hope of future reconciliation.”
While some argue that Harry won’t release another book, not everyone is in agreement on that idea. On her program, Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered, royal commentator Kinsey Schofield dropped a bombshell claim that Prince Harry will release a second book when his father “inevitably” passes away and his brother, Prince William, becomes king.
“I do think he would write about his family again. He was waiting to publish a book after [Queen Elizabeth died]. Originally they were saying there was going to be another publication after the [late] Queen died,” Schofield said.
“I suspect that maybe he would release a book after his father passed away. Especially if Prince William continues to keep him at arm’s length. Because what would the repercussions be if Prince William pushed you out of the fold?”
At present Prince Harry seems rather happy with his life in the US. However, there have been reports suggesting that isn’t the whole story.
“He’s an angry boy”
According to Tom Quinn, Harry misses his army and college friends dearly. Sadly, they haven’t visited him in California because “they don’t get on with Meghan.” As a result, it’s been speculated that the Duke is now looking for a “permanent” home in the UK.
“As time goes by, Harry misses some aspects of his old life in the UK. Inevitably, the honeymoon period where everything in the States is new and exciting is coming to an end and Harry is looking back at the past through rose-tinted spectacles,” Quinn claimed.
He added: “He misses his Old Etonian and army friends, many of whom have not visited as they don’t get on with Meghan. Harry is determined to find his own permanent home in the UK, which is partly why he’s continuing his legal action to get the British taxpayer to pay for his security.”
Quinn isn’t the only one to suggest that Harry misses his old friends and the UK. An unnamed friend of the Duke spoke to the Sunday Times, claiming that Harry is “angry” about being isolated from his family and friends in the UK.
“He’s an angry boy,” the pal claimed. “Things haven’t turned out how he wanted. I think he misses being over here [in Britain] desperately and wants to be admired more. Anyone who knows him feels he’d rather be top of the pops here with everyone loving him, as they do with [his older brother] William and Kate.”
Harry to return to the UK?
Speaking to Fox, royal expert Hilary Fordwich said that her sources, who know Harry’s friends, state that the claim is accurate.
“For many American Brits, particularly from England, there are two sayings that sum us up,” Fordwich said. “The first from John Mahoney, ‘You can take the boy out of England, but you can’t take England out of the boy,’ referring to his huge emotional attachment to England. The other is from Shakespeare, ‘This precious stone set in the silver sea… This blessed plot, this Earth, this realm, this England.'”
Another friend further told the Times that Harry’s pals still can’t forgive him for speaking out about the royals amid his and Meghan’s exit in 2020.
“I can’t believe he’d stoop so low,” the friend said. “It’s outrageously disloyal. Oprah, Netflix and then the book? Three strikes and you’re out.”
“Harry and [his wife] Meghan could have left with dignity and decency and not trash the institution,” another friend of both William and Harry told the Times. “The conclusion is they’ve made money from trashing his family.”
Unfortunately, King Charles and Prince Harry’s relationship appears to have become even worse in recent months.
King Charles ‘doesn’t respond’ to Prince Harry’s calls
Not long ago, royal expert Jennie Bond shockingly claimed that Harry has “no interest” in making amends with the royals. However, even though he would want to mend his relationship with his father, a source tells People Magazine that their communication has deteriorated recently.
According to a friend of Harry’s, King Charles is no longer responding to his son’s calls or letters.
“He gets ‘unavailable right now,'” a friend of Harry’s told People Magazine. “His calls go unanswered. He has tried to reach out about the King’s health, but those calls go unanswered too.”
King Charles’s inability to see his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, has reportedly been tough on the monarch.
Speaking with the Daily Beast, friends of King Charles have accused Harry of “emotional blackmail” by pretty much threatening his father that he’ll never again see Archie and Lilibet.
The source argued that Harry wants to pressure Charles into using his influence to help the Sussexes get increased security when visiting the UK.
When Harry and Meghan left the Royal Family, partaking in the typical duties that royal life demands was no longer a problem. As a result, many were quite surprised when the Sussexes embarked on a three-day tour to Nigeria earlier this year. King Charles, it’s said, was furious about it.
King Charles has ‘one big worry before ‘feud’ with Prince Harry can end
Royal expert Tom Quinn told the Mirror: “William is absolutely furious and determined to find a way to stop this happening in future. Charles is said to be angrier than anyone has ever seen him. What’s really upset the applecart is the fact that the Nigerians treated Meghan and Harry as if they too thought this was an official tour – all the signs were there as the couple were greeted with dances, receptions, visits to schools and charities.”
Just what will happen between Harry and King Charles moving forward is unclear. The Duke hasn’t seen his father on every occasion he’s been back in the UK, but if they the two were to have a sit-down, surely they’d be able to resolve at least one or two issues?
Well, maybe not. According to a friend of King Charles, the trust has already been broken. If he’s sit down for any deep and meaningful conversation with his son, Charles is said to be afraid it could return to haunt him, not least because of the possibility that Harry may yet pen a second book.
“The problem for the King and other members of the family is the worry that if they have a chat with Harry, it will appear in Spare volume two. How do you regain the trust?” a friend of Charles told the Sunday Times.
“I don’t think Harry ever can. But from the conversations I’ve had with the King, I would never say their relationship is irreparable. The King’s capacity to forgive his son is undimmed. There are other members of the royal family who are much more weighted against Harry, that’s the problem.”
