Matt Hughes was 18 years old, working in construction and watching the 2006 World Cup in Germany when a moment at a fan festival changed the entire direction of his life.
It happened at a urinal at the 2006 World Cup, when Matt Hughes’ life changed.
A friend glanced over, did a double take and ran off to get the others. Hughes, 18 at the time, had no real frame of reference for what was normal and didn’t see what all the fuss was about.
Of course he had slept with women who had commented on his size, but he had assumed it was just something people said. It took a friend pulling down his own trousers and saying “that’s what a normal one looks like” for it to finally click.
“I’m like, ‘no, that’s not normal is it?'” Hughes recalled on the Jaackmaate Happy Hour podcast. “That was the start of the idea for the rest of the holiday – it was just ideas of what I could be doing with the rest of my life instead of being a builder.”
From swinging clubs to superstar
Hughes, who performs under the name Danny D, didn’t jump straight into the adult industry though. He started by visiting swinging clubs to test whether he had the confidence to perform in front of others.
At one of them he met a man who paid him 150 euros to have sex with his wife.
“He obviously saw in my face I was amazed by it,” Hughes said. “I literally was like ‘let’s go again.’ I was 18, I could just keep going.”
Over the following 20 years, Danny D became one of the most recognised names in adult entertainment, winning numerous industry awards along the way.
His 9.5-inch manhood, which he had mistaken for entirely ordinary well into his late teens, turned out to be the foundation of an unlikely career.
