Say goodbye to ants overnight with this clever household hack

Many homeowners have problems with ants inside their homes.
But you don’t need strong pesticides to get rid of them. Here are some easy hacks.

Warmer weather is coming, and with it come many nice things. We can go outside in shorts and t-shirts, enjoy the sunshine, and relax in warm evenings.
But just because spring is here and summer is near, doesn’t mean everything is easy.

One common problem for many homeowners when it gets warm is ants.
When ants wake up from their winter sleep, it’s the perfect time for them to look for food. Since flowers and plants haven’t started blooming yet, ants start searching for something sweet and tasty.

When they find something good to eat, they leave a scent trail for their friends. If you’re not paying attention, suddenly, many ants can invade your house and garden!
It’s true that there are worse bugs than ants, but having ants around is still annoying. Most people want to get rid of them.

Contrary to what many believe, you don’t need strong chemicals or poison to get rid of ants. It’s possible to do it naturally, especially if you have children or pets at home and want to avoid harmful substances.

Avoiding ants indoors

First of all, there are some preventive measures that are good to keep in mind to avoid ants inside your home.

The most important thing, of course, is to keep things clean and not leave food out. Ants don’t even need to smell many treats to want to move into your house. On the contrary, according to experts, even a juice stain can be enough to cause an ant invasion, because they love sweets.

So, make sure to keep food leftovers, crumbs, and stains away — especially anything that contains sugar. I mean things like juice, jam, and cookie crumbs. Also, pet food and water can attract ants, so it’s good to remove those as well.
Another good tip is to take out the trash regularly and to vacuum and mop often.

Additionally, it’s a good idea to store food in sealed containers.

Last but not least, it’s wise to fix water leaks and remove moisture near the foundation of the house. Sealing cracks and holes in the house can also help prevent ants from coming in.

Clean with soap and water

If you have been invaded by ants, the first thing is to locate where they are entering. Once you have done that, you can try a trick with just two ingredients – soap and water.

Thoroughly wash the areas where ants usually enter and pour soap and water around the front door. You can also dip your finger in soap and draw it in the corner where you see the ants tend to enter. Soon, you will notice they move on.

The reason is that soap disrupts the ants’ scent trail, which the scouts lay down as a signal to other ants indicating the entry point.

Cinnamon against ants

Another well-known household tip for getting rid of ants is using cinnamon. This spice has a very strong smell, so ants usually avoid places that smell of cinnamon.
Using cinnamon against ants is very simple. Mix some cinnamon with water and dip a cotton ball in it.

Then, wipe along moldings or cracks where you have seen ants, and repeat about once a day until they have left your home for new foraging grounds.

Vinegar

Sometimes you may notice that ants have settled on the lawn or in the garden. Strong spices like cinnamon or pepper can also help keep the pests away.

Another effective trick to prevent ants from crawling on your legs is to use vinegar. Simply apply vinegar to your boots, and you will definitely see that ants wanting to keep you company will stay away.

You can then store your vinegar-scented boots by the front door, and you will definitely scare away the little pests!
