Dolly Parton isn’t in the business of offending anyone, even if it comes at a cost.
The Queen of Country turned rockstar turned down two invitations to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom from former president Donald Trump – both times she was unable to travel. And it turns out she also declined an invitation from President Joe Biden!
The revelation came to light during an interview with TODAY’s Jacob Soboroff.
As reported by Consequence, Soboroff shared with his TODAY Show colleagues that the two discussed off-camera how Parton chose to decline Biden’s invitation.
“I just don’t want even the appearance of being partisan in any way,” Soboroff recalled Parton saying.
While Parton doesn’t want to pledge her allegiance to one political party, she certainly has a lot to say about politics in general.
When asked about the “greedy politicians” she sings about in her first single off her new album Rockstar, she said she was talking about “All of em! Any of em!”
“I don’t think any of ’em are trying hard enough. I’m sure they’re all trying, but I just really think that, often, they worry more about their party than they do about the people. If we just do what we felt was the right thing, rather than who’s gonna lose, who’s gonna win this, who’s gonna look better if they do this, rather than working from the heart.”
It would be awesome if Dolly Parton received the Presidential Medal of Freedom because she absolutely deserves it, but I respect her decision to decline the invitation.
