Jamie Foxx was recently spotted in public for the first time since his hospitalization in April, a relief for fans who were worried about the actor’s health.
Now, Foxx has been spotted again — this time lending a helping hand to a stranger.
Instagram user @barber_homie_quan shared the rare sighting, writing that their mom lost her bag in Chicago yesterday and the Oscar-winning actor returned it to her.
The family yells “Thank you, Jamie!” as the actor pulls away in a vehicle. “He said he feels good y’all,” the caption reads.
This would be an exciting celebrity encounter on its own, but it’s also significant in that it marks only the second sighting of Foxx since he was hospitalized for an undisclosed medical issue on April 11.
A statement from his daughter Corinne stated that he had “experienced a medical complication” but was “already on his way to recovery.” However, further reports fueled speculation that the 55-year-old might be seriously ill.
“Jamie’s people are saying he’s doing OK and improving, while doctors try to get to the bottom of his problems — but he wouldn’t be in a hospital this long if he was anything close to OK,” an anonymous source told RadarOnline. “His friends and family are hoping for the best — but preparing for the worst!”
“My heart is heavy this morning,” tweeted actress Nia Long. “Praying for our brother Jamie Foxx. My love and prayers run deep for you and your loved ones.”
At the same time, Foxx was kept completely out of the public eye, only making a single brief thank you message on Instagram.
However, Corinne Foxx disputed the rumors, saying that her father had “been out of the hospital for weeks” and was “playing pickleball.”
Earlier this week, footage obtained by TMZ showed Foxx making his first public appearance in months: the actor appeared to be well as he waved to onlookers on a boat on the Chicago River.
“Boat life… celebrating summer,” Foxx wrote in his first tweet since March, tagging Brown Sugar Bourbon, the whiskey company he owns. “Stay blessed!”
Details of his health are still unknown, and while Foxx seems to be doing better and is out in public, he hasn’t returned to Hollywood just yet. Last month Foxx missed the premiere of his upcoming Netflix film They Cloned Tyrone, and Nick Cannon has replaced him as host of this season of Beat Shazam.
However, he recently signed on to host a new game show alongside his daughter Corinne. He will appear in a number of upcoming films, including the comedy film Strays with Will Ferrell and the Netflix film Back in Action opposite Cameron Diaz.
Thank you to Jamie Foxx for helping this woman get her bag back — we’re glad to see he’s doing well!
