Almost 10 years after his untimely passing, late funnyman Robin Williams‘ children have paid tribute to him on what would have been his 72nd birthday.
Williams – who is best known for appearing in multiple family favorites like Mrs. Doubtfire and Flubber – was remembered by two of his three children on his birthday.
Zak, 40, and Zelda, 33, took to social media to share heartfelt messages about their famous dad.
Zak shared a photo of Williams from the 1987 film Good Morning, Vietnam and wrote: “Happy 72nd Dad! Was remembering how much I used to love that look you’d give… Miss you and love you forever!”
In Good Morning, Vietnam, Williams portrayed U.S. Air Force Sergeant Adrian Cronauer and earned accolades, including a Golden Globe for best actor in a motion picture musical or comedy, along with nominations for a best actor Academy Award and a BAFTA Award for best actor in a leading role.
Williams was a loving father of three children. He had Zak with his first wife Valerie Valerdi and shared Zelda and Cody, 31, with his ex-wife Marsha Garces. His third wife, Susan Schneider, was with him until his death in 2014.
Zak had previously commemorated his father’s 71st birthday with a photo of Williams in cycling gear, reminiscing: “Happy 71st Birthday Dad! I’ll be remembering you today as you would want to be remembered, in spandex. Miss you and love you always!”
Zelda, in her tribute, imagined her father supporting ongoing strikes like the Writer’s Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strikes. She shared a throwback picture of Williams on the picket lines during the 2008 WGA strike, saying: “Happy birthday to Poppo, who definitely would’ve been out there fighting the good fight for art and artists today and always.”
In 2019, Zelda celebrated her brother Cody’s wedding to his longtime girlfriend Maria Flores on what would have been their father’s 68th birthday.
“On the 21st of July, 2019, it became the day I officially gained a new sister! I’m so grateful to have paid witness to your love over the years, to have watched you grow and care for each other in ways we should all be so lucky to experience. You were already part of the family in my eyes, but now there’s an official slip of paper somewhere that agrees!” she wrote in the now-deleted post.
“Zak, Mom and I love you both dearly, and I think I can speak for all of us when I say CONGRATULATIONS TO THE BRIDE AND GROOM!” she added, via People.
Williams passed away on August 11, 2014, and it was later revealed that he was struggling with Lewy Body Dementia, a condition that often presents with Parkinsonian motor symptoms, depression, and hallucinations.
Despite his untimely departure, Williams continues to be remembered fondly by his children and fans alike, his legacy living on through his timeless performances and the love of those he left behind.
