While many celebrities have proudly denounced cosmetic surgery, Kathy Griffin is not ashamed to show off the results of her latest procedure.
Even if the immediate results are a little shocking.
“I didn’t know it would be that bad,” the comedian told People. “I could not stop laughing even though it was painful to laugh for about four days.”
The 62-year-old recently documented her trip to Vale of Shadows in Los Angeles where she had her eyebrows microbladed and her lips tattooed.
“I’m getting my lips tattooed, but they call it blushing? We’ll see,” she said in the clip.
Lip tattooing or lip blushing is a semi-permanent tattoo that enhances the color and gives the illusion of fuller lips. Microblading involves a similar technique to give off the appearance of a thicker eyebrow.
As Griffin laid on a table with a white substance around her lips, her aesthetician covered her lips with plastic wrap and asked if she was ready to remain silent for the next three hours.
The video showed the aesthetician using a tattoo gun on Griffin’s lips before fast-forwarding to post-procedure results.
Griffin wasted no time showing off her new look to her husband, Randy Bick, who was slightly taken aback to say the least.
Her friend Kristen Johnston was horrified.
“What did you do? That’s not real,” Johnston said.
Even though everyone’s initial reactions were that of shock and horror, in less than a week the swelling went down and Griffin was finally able to “look at myself in the mirror without any makeup on.”
While she’s in love with the results, she’ll need at least one more procedure to complete her look.
“They did 90% in the first visit and I have one final tuneup in a few weeks.”
