Kathy Griffin has become incredibly open with her fans as of late. The famous comedian opened up about her health struggles recently, both physical and mental. And now, she has revealed something else which is concerning…

In 2021, she revealed that she had been diagnosed with lung cancer, which led to her having to get half her left lung removed.

“I was definitely in shock,” Griffin said in a Nightline interview. “I’m still a little bit in shock, not denial, but once a day I’ll turn to somebody and be like, ‘Can you believe this shit? Is this a bitch or what?’”

“To be honest, this cancer surgery was a little more than I had anticipated,” Griffin wrote on Instagram in August 2021. “Tonight will be my first night without any narcotic pain killers. Hello Tylenol, my new best friend!” She mentioned then that the last time she had been in the hospital was in 2020 when she had tried to take her own life by overdosing on prescription pills.

“With over a year clean and drug free, I now know I can do this and anything I want without those devil pills,” she said. “Y’know what? I fear drugs and addiction more than I fear cancer. So, I think I’ll be OK.” The actress has been candid about her health in the recent past.

Earlier this year, the 62-year-old Kathy Griffin similarly used the platform to reveal some personal information about herself. She posted a video that surprised a lot of people.

“Let’s talk about PTSD. Never talked about it publicly,” Griffin began in her video. “You can laugh or whatever, but I’ve been diagnosed with complex PTSD, and it’s called an extreme case.”

“If any of you know my story, you’ll understand that this really started for me about five and half years ago. Wink,” she explained. She seemed to be referring to the time when she posted a picture with a replica of former President Donald Trump’s bloodied head that led to a lot of people sending her hate. She fell out of a lot of peoples’ graces both professionally and personally.

Earlier this year, the comedian and actress shared the news that she had an MRI done on Easter Sunday. She shared a picture of herself bundled in a blanket while wearing a mask in a hospital hallway.

”Happy Easter??? Getting an MRI,” wrote Griffin in the caption, not giving any further information.

She posted a TikTok video and also added footage from the camera the surgeon used to see Griffin’s vocal cords.

She also added a video of her in her post-op bed, with some details for her fans about why she opted for the surgery. She said it was “because I want to be ready for my big Vegas show on June 17.”

She added in case there would be any speculation about why she had the procedure done, she said, “This is just part of my recovery post-lung cancer journey. I’m cancer-free.” She also used the video as a way to appreciate her doctor, Dr. Barbu, whom she called a “really kickass female voice surgeon.”
