Sharon Osbourne has gone on record to confirm that she and husband Ozzy Osbourne yet have a shared assisted-suicide pact amid the latter’s ongoing battle with Parkinson’s disease.
The subject of Ozzy’s health has been a talking point for a while now, and while the 74-year-old rocker doesn’t appear to be at death’s door, Sharon was asked about the suicide pact she first brought to public attention in her 2007 memoir, Sharon Osbourne Extreme: My Autobiography.
In the pages of that book, Sharon revealed that she and her husband had agreed to go to the Swiss assisted dying organization Dignitas if either one of them was ever stricken by dementia…
Fast forward to January 2020 and Ozzy confirmed for the public that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Not only that, but the Black Sabbath star has also contended with a number of other health issues over the past few years.
As such, it’s hardly surprising that there are fans who wondered if he and Sharon’s aforementioned shared assisted-suicide pact still carried weight.
In the latest episode of The Osbourne’s Podcast, Sharon was asked by children Kelly Osbourne and Jack Osbourne whether or not euthanasia was still a possibility for her and Ozzy – remember, their initial pact was made more than ten years ago.
“Do you think that we’re gonna suffer?” Sharon replied.
Her son Jack then added: “Aren’t we already all suffering?”
Sharon clarified: “Yes, we all are, but I don’t want it to actually hurt, as well. Mental suffering is enough pain without physical. So if you’ve got mental and physical, see ya.”
The family discussion soon came to a close, with the obvious take-away being that Sharon has made up her mind regarding the possibility of euthanasia concerning herself and her husband.
Indeed, for his part Ozzy also appeared to be keen on the idea if faced with any debilitating, life-threatening diseases or terminal illnesses.
Speaking to the Mirror in 2014, the rock star said: “If I can’t live my life the way I’m living it now — and I don’t mean financially — then that’s it…
“If I can’t get up and go to the bathroom myself and I’ve got tubes up my a** and an enema in my throat, then I’ve said to Sharon, ‘Just turn the machine off.’ If I had a stroke and was paralysed, I don’t want to be here. I’ve made a will and it’s all going to Sharon if I die before her, so ultimately it will all go to the kids.”
