Two children are dead, and their mother severely burned after a fire tore through their home in Meriwether County, Georgia early Sunday morning.
According to the Meriwether County Emergency Management Agency, a girl died at the scene, while two victims were taken to the hospital for treatment. One of the victims, a young boy, was pronounced dead on arrival.
EMA received a call about a house fire with possible victims trapped inside around 3 a.m.
“The house caught on fire right in the room where she was, and the little boy, which is Breon, he was on the bed with his mother,” Stanley Childs, Brionna Childs and Breon “BJ” Childs’ grandfather, told WANF.
“I’ll remember that for the rest of my life, the way that house was burning, knowing my grandbaby, my granddaughter was still in there.”
Stanley described the tense moments after his son arrived on the scene.
“My son, when he got there, he snatched the air condition out of the window and his girlfriend’s arm was hanging out the window, and he just pulled her arm out and then the little boy, he got him out, but there was no movement or nothing from neither one of those,” Stanley said. “But the little girl, they couldn’t get to her.”
“He broke windows trying to get them. You know, he tried everything in his power to try to get them.”
As the family tries to deal with the loss of their 10-year-old twins, they are asking for one thing: “We just need prayer.”
“Like I say, they can’t be replaced. My babies are gone. They gone,” said Trudie Childs, the twins’ grandmother. “I’m just asking the community, just pray. Give us strength, Lord. Pray for my son, pray for their mother. She down there fighting too, Jesus.”
Please join us and pray for the Childs family during this extremely difficult time. Their loss is insurmountable.
