Mom buries 5 kids together after house fire – and their custom caskets are just too much

A grieving mother in St. Louis, Illinois experienced heartbreak quite like no other when she was forced to bury all five of her children after their deaths in a house fire.

As per reports, Sabrina Dunigan’s quintet of sons and daughters were laid to rest on August 21, 2021 in a truly gut-wrenching funeral ceremony attended by loved ones, friends, and members of their local community.

Indeed, the five custom caskets fashioned for the siblings made for a harrowing sight – and not one I think anyone can look upon without feeling a profound sense of loss.

News articles published at the time told how Loy-el Dunigan, 2, Jabari Johnson, 4, 8-year-old twins Heaven and Neveah Dunigan, and 9-year-old Deontae Davis died when their East St. Louis home was engulfed by flames at 3 a.m. on August 6, 2021.

The five children were laid to rest on August 2021, their respective caskets painted according to each child’s favorite colors and decorated with photos of their smiling faces.

Walter Terry, the funeral director involved with organizing the children’s ceremony, told KTVI: “These children were wonderful children.

“If you look at the caskets, each casket reflects their personal desires. The games they played with, the toys they liked, the colors they were interested in.

“If you look at the casket, it’s really a glimpse of their young lives.”

Tragic reports revealed that Sabrina and her children resided in the residence with her father, Greg Dunigan, and his wife, Vanicia Mosley. When the fire broke out, the latter two were home, while Sabrina had left to pick up her boyfriend from work.

Sabrina returned home to find the apartment engulfed in flames – she is said to have suffered burns after attempting to save her children.

Later that year, 2021, Sabrina was charged with five counts of endangering the life or health of a child.

In the charging documents, prosecutors in St. Clair County alleged that Sabrina “knowingly caused or permitted a child to be placed in circumstances that endangered the child’s life or health.”

“Why are they trying to do this to her?” her dad, Greg, asked The Post-Dispatch at the time.

“She done lost all she can lose already. Why they want to take the rest away, meaning herself? She don’t have nothing left.”

I can only imagine the pain and suffering felt by this family after such a terrible tragedy. Our hearts go out to all involved.
