Kevin Costner has finally admitted that he was left heartbroken by his divorce from ex-wife Christine Baumgartner, describing it as a “crushing moment”.
The superstar actor and his former partner stole headlines last year when it was announced that they would be splitting after their 20-year marriage.
At the time, it was heavily rumored that it was Baumgartner who had initiated divorce proceedings, with Costner described as being shocked and upset by her decision to call it quits.
Until now, though, Costner’s official thoughts and feelings have remained beyond public knowledge. Following a legal battle regarding child support payments, the Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves star apparently moved on from Baumgartner, and it would seem he’s now in a place where he feels ready to discuss his split from the designer.
In an interview with CBS News earlier this week, Costner said of his divorce: “That’s a crushing moment. It hurt, but I go forward.”
The actor added that he was left with “no choice” but to move on because of his children. Costner and Baumgartner have two sons, Cayden, 17, and Hayes, 15, as well as a daughter, Grace, 14. Costner, meanwhile, has three other children with ex-wife Cindy Silva, and another son with Bridget Rooney.
“My children are looking at me, so I can’t wilt like a daisy,” the 69-year-old said about last year’s separation from Baumgartner.
“I have to go forward. I have to continue to be who I am and to keep a special eye on who they are.”
Just why Costner and Baumgartner’s seemingly happy marriage ended in divorce is a matter that was speculated on heavily last year. Some sources claimed that Costner’s hectic Yellowstone schedule was to blame, while other reports insinuated that the actor had been suspicious of his ex-wife’s friendship with Josh Connor.
Indeed, earlier this year it was claimed that Baumgartner had moved on with Connor after the pair were spotted together, this after Baumgartner testified in court in July that they were just friends.
