Now it seems like in the finale for season 33, there was something that was left to be desired by fans. Keep reading to learn about what exactly upset fans of the show so much!
On November 26, ‘Dancing With the Stars‘ aired its finale for season 33. The episode heralded a lot of criticism and debates from fans. While fans loved what they saw from the competitors, it seemed some were less than happy from the judge’s attitudes, especially towards Stephen Nedoroscik and his partner, dancer Rylee Arnold.
The finale featured the top five pairs who were, gymnast Nedoroscik and Rylee Arnold, actress Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong, “The Bachelorette” star Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson, rugby player Ilona Maher and Alan Bersten, and former NFL player Danny Amendola and Witney Carson.
Each of the pair performed a final routine in their bid to win the mirrorball trophy. In the semifinal episodes, there were no eliminations, a rare occurrence.
From the best performances of the night were Nedoroscik and Arnold’s Quick Step routine. The couple had great chemistry and before the routine, Nedoroscik was gushing about his dance partner saying, “We’ve just developed such a great relationship, and getting her to this point feels amazing.”
While the couple finished on the bottom of the leaderboard last week, they entered the finale with confidence. “When I was at the Olympics, I had a ton of pressure on me, and I handled it perfectly too,” Nedoroscik explained how he appeared so nonchalant.
Nedoroscik and the dancer, Arnold, were showered with a lot of appreciation by Judge Carrie Ann Inaba. “All I could think of while I was watching that dance is that Len Goodman, this gentleman, this mirrorball [trophy] right here, would have been smiling from ear to ear. That was absolutely the best I’ve ever seen you,” she said.
But while she was all praise, judge Derek Hough was less than appreciative. While he called the two of them “a burst of sunshine, like two little antidepressants dancing across the floor.”
He made a note of Nedoroscik’s disposition, “Seriously, he’s just radiating joy with every single step and dance out there.” Despite the positive feedback, he awarded them with 9 points, a decision which some fans felt was unfair.
“Derec definitely doesn’t like Stephen he always has a bit for him & doesn’t want to give him the 10…Can they change Derrick as a judge [sic],” a one user commented.
“This was Stephen’s best dance 🥹🥹,” another said confidently, while a third said, “Derek is annoying this season, trying to hard to be Len. He should’ve given him a 10! That was awesome [sic]!” Some viewers thought giving nine points, deducting from their total for no reason, was uncalled for, especially given how much the pair had improved in their performance.
Others pointed out how tough the Quick Step is and how it is considered one of the hardest ballroom dances.
The love between Arnold and her gymnast partner Nedoroscik was seen by viewers even off camera. The dance partner posted a final message to the gymnast praising him and giving him in a heartfelt message. She said, “I am so, so, so, so proud of you. You have shown me every single week how hard you work and how inspiring you are. You have taken this life and just made the most out of it. It is so cool to see your journey. It all started with you being […] so heroic in the Olympics, and working so hard for your craft, and now you’re here on the ‘Dancing with the Stars’ stage.”
She commented on the fact that they had made it so far had been “so insane.” SHe also shared how she was glad her first time on the show was with him!
“Thank you for being the light in my life, bringing so much positivity and kindness, and you truly have healed me in so many ways and I’m just so grateful that you’re my partner this season. I can’t wait to kill that finale, we are going to win that Mirrorball, I just know we can do it!” she said.
The video then turns to the Olympian who has his own message for his dance partner. He says, “Hey, Rylee. Just wanna, like, look back on this season, my journey with you, you’ve just been unbelievably positive, you’ve been so patient with me, and honestly, I don’t think I could have made it to the final with literally anyone else. You’re just the kindest, sweetest person,” He went on to add some humor, saying, “I’m gonna miss your burps, and all of that fun stuff, and yeah, just love you, and let’s freaking get this Mirrorball!”
