Jennifer Garner mourns loss of dog one day before Thanksgiving

Jennifer Garner was forced to say goodbye to a furry family member just one day before Thanksgiving 2024.

Readers will likely remember that the iconic actress grieved the passing of her father earlier this year, and now months on, tragedy has struck again.

According to Garner herself, her beloved dog, Birdie, suddenly fell ill this week, and a subsequent visit to the vet revealed that the poor pooch had come to the end of her life. “It is hard to know how to write this— it seems nuts, given the world, to mourn a pet, but since we have shared Birdie with all of you, it only seems fair to let you know of her passing,” the actress wrote on Instagram.

In her emotional post, Garner stated her belief that Birdie had seemed to wait for one of her children to come home from college. This meant that the family were able to spend the dog’s final moments together, saying their fond farewells and thanking Birdie for the love and warmth she had brought them during her time on Earth.

Those familiar with Garner’s Instagram series Pretend Cooking Show may recognize Birdie, the lovable Golden Retriever who frequently appeared alongside Jennifer in her videos.

“She lived a happy dog life and is now in the role she was born to play: angel girl. It’s a gift to love and be loved by such a creature as Birdie the Doggie. 🐾,” Garner shared.

As stated above, 2024 has been a trying year for Garner, who lost her father, William, back in March. The pair shared a loving bond and William passed away surrounded by his family.

Garner wrote in a statement: “My dad passed peacefully Saturday afternoon. We were with him, singing Amazing Grace as he left us (did we carry him across or scare him away— valid question.) While there is no tragedy in the death of an 85 year old man who lived a healthy, wonderful life, I know grief is unavoidable, waiting around unexpected corners.

As per reports, Garner reunited with ex-husband Ben Affleck on Thanksgiving Day this year, with the former superstar couple and their children volunteering at the Midnight Mission in Los Angeles.

There they served 2,000 homeless and near-homeless individuals at the charity’s Thanksgiving brunch. Garner and Affleck were there for three hours working side-by-side.

Our thoughts go out to Jennifer Garner at this difficult time. If you’ve ever had to deal with the loss of a pet, you’ll surely know the grief she is going through.
