JK Rowling reveals why she ‘won’t forgive’ Daniel Radcliffe

Reality continues to strike down the fantasy world created by J.K. Rowling, who recently revealed that she “won’t forgive” the “celebrity mouthpieces” of Harry Potter for their vocal support of transgender rights.

In 2019, J.K Rowling sparked a viral firestorm when she offered her support to Maya Forstater, a British researcher known for her controversial views on gender identities.

Forstater made headlines when her contract with the Centre for Global Development was not renewed, reportedly due to her tweets and public statements questioning the idea that gender identity can override biological sex.

Forstater’s views sparked intense debate, with some viewing her comments as transphobic, while others championed her right to free speech.

And when Rowling tweeted her support of Forstater, she was met with swift backlash.

“Dress however you please. Call yourself whatever you like. Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you. Live your best life in peace and security. But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real?” the author wrote on X.

Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, two of the most recognized faces from the Harry Potter film franchise, were quick to respond.

Radcliffe stated, “Transgender women are women,” in a public letter through The Trevor Project – an LGBTQ+ organization – while Watson tweeted her unwavering support for the transgender community, saying, “so many other people around the world see you, respect you and love you for who you are.”

Their comments didn’t sit well with Rowling, who felt they had taken a stance against her.

‘Bloody angry’

Fast forward to 2024, and the tension hasn’t eased.

In April, pediatrician Hilary Cass released an independent review commissioned by Britain’s National Health Service (NHS) examining gender-identity services for children and adolescents under 18.

According to NHS policy, children aged 16 and older may access gender-affirming hormones, but the Cass review urges “extreme caution” for youth considering this option.

“There should be a clear clinical rationale for providing hormones at this stage rather than waiting until an individual reaches 18,” the review states.

And Rowling had a lot to say to people “cheerleading for what now looks like severe medical malpractice,” making it clear she hasn’t moved past Radcliffe and Watson’s opposition to her views.

“…If I sound angry, it’s because I’m bloody angry. I read Cass this morning and my anger’s been mounting all day. Kids have been irreversibly harmed, and thousands are complicit, not just medics, but the celebrity mouthpieces, unquestioning media and cynical corporations,” she tweets.

Fans jumped in with their comments, offering a range of perspectives on the debate.

“Do we really need a study to know that men cannot be turned into women? This ends when we all stop playing along,” writes one fan.

A second cyber fan offers, “I’ve never been a fan of Harry Potter and magic but you’re great. I believe that many people would have a lot to learn from you on how to be more humanly magical.”

“Once again Rowling drops her views. then she doesn’t respond, who cares what this bigot thinks,” shares a third.

“’Celebrity mouthpieces’ Who on earth might she mean…” tweets a fourth user.

Meanwhile, another online user further fuelled the fire already burning between the author and the two beloved stars who brought her iconic Harry Potter characters to life.

“Just waiting for Dan and Emma to give you a very public apology … safe in the knowledge that you will forgive them …” the netizen tweeted in response to Rowling’s earlier post.

Despite some users accusing Rowling of being nonresponsive, the author snapped back, expressing that she found their support for the movement to be unforgivable.

“Not safe, I’m afraid,” she tweeted. “Celebs who cosied up to a movement intent on eroding women’s hard-won rights and who used their platforms to cheer on the transitioning of minors can save their apologies for traumatised detransitioners and vulnerable women reliant on single sex spaces.”

Radcliffe responded, “I will continue to support the rights of all LGBTQ people, and have no further comment than that.”

‘Forced denial of reality’

Rowling has previously stated that she stands by her decision to use language that some consider misgendering transgender individuals, asserting that she would not “delete posts calling a man a man.”

She also said she’d rather go to prison than pandering to trans labeling.” I’ll happily do two years if the alternative is compelled speech and forced denial of the reality and importance of sex. Bring on the court case, I say. It’ll be more fun than I’ve ever had on a red carpet,” she tweeted in October 2023.

It’s hard to imagine a reconciliation between Rowling and her Potter stars anytime soon. This conflict isn’t just about personal disagreements – it’s tied to deeply held beliefs and values that neither side seems willing to compromise.
