Kate Middleton will “possibly reach out” to Meghan Markle

What was supposed to be the fairytale story ended up being a feud that has been ongoing for years. Kate Middleton had been a working royal for over five years when her brother-in-law, Prince Harry, introduced his girlfriend, Meghan Markle. When it became obvious that Harry and Meghan were serious about their relationship, royal fans worldwide saw a future in which Kate and Meghan were the new power women of the Royal Family… and hopefully it would stay that way for decades.

Today, of course, we know that didn’t happen. From the beginning, Kate and Meghan had a hard time finding friendship in one another. Before the Sussexes’ marriage in 2018, Kate reportedly even made Meghan cry over an alleged issue with Princess Charlotte’s flower girl dress. The rift between Harry, Meghan, William, and Kate has now been ongoing for years, and very little points toward them making amends anytime soon.

When Meghan Markle returned to the US with her husband, William and Kate reportedly made a first move to explore the “US Royal Market.” That in itself surely wasn’t well-received on Meghan’s end, and even less when it’s considered that Kate was recently given an honorable nomination by Time Magazine.

In fact, one royal expert believes Meghan had a hard time letting it go — and even got jealous.

Kate and Meghan were set to become the next generation of power women within the Royal Family. Kate was to become queen once Prince William took the throne after his father, while Harry and Meghan were to be two senior working royals beloved of the public.

In the beginning – at least as far as the public were aware – Kate and Meghan got along great, seeming to enjoy each other’s company when out on public duty. Unfortunately, though, their relationship didn’t get off to the greatest of starts.

Before Meghan had even met William or Kate, she had, according to Prince Harry, made quite the first impression. According to Harry’s book, Spare, when the now-estranged prince revealed to his brother and sister-in-law that he was dating the television actress, they were left “speechless.”

Harry described how the couple was “open-mouthed” when they discovered he was dating Meghan. Sadly, William was not convinced.

“When all’s said and done, Harold, she’s an American actress, anything could happen,” William is said to have told his brother.

Meghan Markle & Kate Middleton’s first meeting

Harry and Meghan began dating in 2016, and their relationship quickly turned serious. Meghan’s next step was to meet Harry’s family, starting with his brother, William, and sister-in-law, Kate.

Meghan, of course, came from a very different background to the rest of the Royal Family, and even the rules of engagement concerning meeting and greeting was something she would have learn.

In their 2023 Netflix series Harry & Meghan, several details about how Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle didn’t get along were revealed. In the series, the Duchess of Sussex recalled her first meeting with Kate, which wasn’t the most successful.

“When Will and Kate came over, and I met her for the first time, they came over for dinner, I remember I was in ripped jeans, and I was barefoot,” Meghan recalled. “I was a hugger. I’ve always been a hugger, I didn’t realize that that is really jarring for a lot of Brits.”

She continued: “I guess I started to understand very quickly that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside. There is a forward-facing way of being, and then you close the door and go ‘You can relax now’, but that formality carries over on both sides. And that was surprising to me.”

Harry also explained that his brother “recoiled” when Meghan tried to hug him, as he didn’t often hug strangers.

After Harry and Meghan’s 2018 wedding, the American actress was all set to take on the challenge of being a working member of the Royal Family. She hoped that Kate would help her settle in and guide her in acting and engaging with members of the public. But that, reportedly, didn’t happen.

“Meghan was disappointed that she and Kate hadn’t bonded over the position they shared, but she wasn’t losing sleep over it,” authors Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie wrote in their 2020 book Finding Freedom.

“Meghan would far rather have had Kate check in on her during the most difficult times with the press.”

Kate Middleton to “reach out” to Meghan Markle during Christmas, former butler says

Several incidents led to Meghan and Kate’s relationship becoming increasingly troubled. After the Sussexes’ royal exit, and their subsequent accusations against the Royal Family, neither William nor Kate wanted anything to do with Harry and Meghan.

Still, when Kate received her cancer diagnosis earlier this year, Meghan reportedly called her in a show of support. According to former royal butler Grant Harrold, the fact that Meghan decided to call the Princess of Wales could have been decisive for the future.

Speaking to GB News, Harrold, King Charles’ ex-butler, claimed Kate will contact Harry and Meghan over the current holiday period, possibly even via video call.

“I believe that Catherine will reach out to Harry and Meghan and wish them a Happy Christmas and I think Harry and Meghan themselves will possibly reach out,” Harrold said. “The thing about Christmas is that it’s all about goodwill to others, letting bygones be bygones, forgetting the past, moving into the new year.”

The former butler continued: “So if there’s any point in the year that the families are going to communicate or touch base, it’s going to be over Christmas – there’s something magical about Christmas that gets families back together. I’d like to think that they will all be communicating, whether that is done by text calls or FaceTime – I’d like to think FaceTime, but that’s something we will never know.”

“I like to think deep down that things are moving in the right direction,” he concluded. “I have a feeling that they are, I really do think they are, but that’s just my personal feeling.”

Harry & Meghan at risk of losing Netflix contract

Harry and Meghan made millions through their business ventures following their royal exit in 2020. However, not everything has gone exactly to plan. Their deal with Spotify was canceled, and after having released two Netflix documentaries through their production company Archewell, it appears that Netflix has lost its patience with the Sussexes. It has been reported that Meghan will launch her cooking, gardening, and entertainment show on Netflix in early 2025.

However, according to Express, that runs the risk of being the last thing Harry and Meghan will produce for Netflix. The news outlet reports that the streaming giant may not renew the Sussexes’ contract, which ends at the culmination of 2025.

Speaking with Express, Renae Smith, founder and director of The Atticism PR & Brand Agency, said that Harry and Meghan’s delivery to Netflix has “felt inconsistent.”

“Regarding their £80m Netflix deal, I do think its renewal could be at risk,” Smith told Express. “While the initial buzz around the partnership was massive, the actual delivery has felt inconsistent. Their docuseries Harry & Meghan was a standout success, ranking in Netflix’s top 10 and generating plenty of conversation.

“However, the new polo series is a niche topic that doesn’t align well with what their wider audience expects or wants from them. From Netflix’s perspective, they’re investing in content that drives subscriptions and global conversation, and it’s hard to argue that this latest offering achieves either.”

Prince William & Kate Middleton to branch-out to the US?

Smith concluded by saying that Harry and Meghan’s “star power” and “promise of unique storytelling” initially fueled the entire collaboration. However, their projects “may not justify the cost” if the Sussexes don’t deliver high-quality content.

“From a PR standpoint, a show about polo seems like a misstep, especially given the narrative they’ve built around connecting with the public on more relatable issues like mental health, family struggles, and social justice. Polo is a sport that, fair or not, carries connotations of elitism,” Smith revealed.

Meghan Markle has always been one for the spotlight, which is not surprising considering her history as an actress. She and Harry have been reported to want to be a part of the Hollywood elite ever since relocating to the States, but that hasn’t turned out as they expected.

At the same time as the Duke and Duchess are exploring all sorts of business ventures, William and Kate reportedly submitted an official document to the United States Patent and Trademark Office in May last year as they aim to establish their Royal Foundation charity in the US. According to documents, William and Kate initially bid to land a trademark.

Meghan remains “the Queen of the US” when compared to Kate. However, that might change as the princess received a major nomination just days ago, which could affect Meghan.

Meghan Markle “jealous” of Kate Middeton’s Time Magazine nomination

Kate was nominated by Time Magazine for their Person of the Year Award 2024. The magazine wrote in their motivation that the princess has “made international headlines this year and stirred a conversation about privacy and health for public figures.”

While Donald Trump won the Person of the Year award, the fact that Kate was even nominated is likely to make Meghan jealous, royal expert Charlotte Griffiths claimed.

It’s not the first time Time Magazine has nominated Kate Middleton. She was the runner-up Person of the Year in 2011, and in 2013, Time placed her on the list of the 100 most influential people in the world.

On the Daily Mail’s Palace Confidential, Charlotte Griffiths said: “Meghan would have been really jealous. She would have loved to have been nominated for Time Women of the Year.”
