After finding refuge in Germany, a group of exceptionally talented children from Ukraine set out to do something extraordinary.
Rallying for peace, the young singers – known as Color Music Choir – became global sensations after pouring their hearts into covering “Something Just Like This,” a hit song that talks about love, simplicity and being human.
Color Music Choir isn’t just any children’s choir. Originally based in Ukraine, this talented group of young singers is known for their impeccable harmonies and emotionally charged performances. They take popular songs and transform them into mesmerizing choral masterpieces.
And when they sing, no one would ever know the heartache these youngsters – aged 4 to 18 – have experienced.
“The war has changed so much – our lives, our opportunities, and our ability to create. Over the past 2.5 years, the Color Music Choir has transformed,” the choir shares on Facebook, adding its new home is in Braunschweig, Germany.
“Today, it is a group of resilient refugee children from Ukraine who have found safety in Germany. These children are starting over, rebuilding their lives in unfamiliar surroundings.”
Color Music explains it is rebuilding what was lost in Ukraine to create “a cozy, safe space for our young singers, many of whom have endured unimaginable pain…Through music, we give them a chance to heal, grow, and dream again.”
Children of war
The kids, who “have experienced war, displacement, and loss,” wanted to use their voices to “bring hope and joy to everyone who listens.”
“They inspire us with their strength, their smiles, and their determination to move forward despite everything.”
The perfect song to spread their message of inspiration and “peace for Ukraine” was the 2017 hit song, “Something Just Like This,” by Coldplay and the Chainsmokers.
For months, the choir dedicated themselves to rehearsing the song, perfecting every note, synchronizing their voices, and capturing the essence of the song’s hopeful, dreamy lyrics.
‘Moved me to tears’
Once the choir uploaded their video to YouTube, the reaction was nothing short of spectacular. Within days, their heartfelt rendition spread across social media platforms, drawing admiration from more than 102 million people worldwide.
Comments flooded in, praising their angelic voices, flawless harmonies, and the raw emotion behind their performance.
“Your signature song, which never gets old. God bless Ukraine!” writes one online user in the comments section of the choir’s Facebook post.
“Moved me to tears of gratitude the angels of light singing within them for Ukraine and for everyone in the world. Feel it with your heart. Thank you (sic)” shares a second.
Another adds, “Praying that you’re hanging in there as best you can and not letting your spirit be defeated and finding some comfort in music.”
Something extraordinary
The choir’s cover of “Something Just Like This” quickly became one of the most popular renditions of the song ever recorded.
But it wasn’t just the numbers that made their performance special. It was the pure, unfiltered emotion that struck a chord with listeners. In a world filled with distractions, this choir reminded us of the beauty of music – the power to move, inspire, and connect us all.
Their viral success with “Something Just Like This” is more than just an impressive YouTube milestone – it’s a reminder that when young talent is nurtured, it can create something truly magical.
As we continue to follow their journey, one thing is clear: this choir isn’t just making music – they’re making history.
