Donald Trump has yet again been found wanting in the court of public opinion having been accused of making “disgusting” comments in the wake of Joe Biden’s cancer diagnosis.
Former POTUS Biden’s team announced on Sunday that doctors had found an “aggressive” prostate cancer that has “mestatasized to the bone”. The 82-year-old had reportedly complained of urinary symptoms prior to his diagnosis, which came after a trip to a doctor on Friday.
The “prostate nodule” found has been “characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5)”, though doctors say the cancer appears to be ‘hormone-sensitive,’ meaning it can be effectively managed with treatment.
In the wake of the announcement regarding Biden’s cancer, which came on Sunday, world leaders and political rivals alike shared their well-wishes. President Donald Trump, who lost to Biden in the 2020 presidential election, was among them, tweeting he and Melania Trump’s support.
“We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery,” Trump said in a statement on the day the news broke.
Yet in typical Trump fashion, it didn’t take long before he began to expand on his sentiment, essentially accusing Biden’s team of a cover up before yet again reinforcing his claim that the Russia/Ukraine war would never have occurred had he been in the White House.

Speaking to reporters at the Oval Office, the POTUS said: “I think it’s very sad actually, I’m surprised that the public wasn’t notified a long time ago because to get to stage 9, that’s a long time.”
It’s important to highlight the distinction between the aforementioned Gleason scale and the stages used to categorize the development of a cancer. The Gleason scale assesses not how far a cancer has advanced, but rather how abnormal the cancer cells are on a scale of two to 10.
Since Biden has a Gleason scale of 9, he’s in the highest group, meaning his cancer is likely to spread quickly. It does not, however, mean he has “stage 9 cancer”, as Trump has parrotted.
Trump continued: “It’s very dangerous. Look, this is no longer politically correct, this is dangerous for our country.

“Look at the mess we’re in and you’re talking about these questions on Ukraine and Russia, that would have never happened as an example, if I were president, it would never have happened.
“The other thing is why did it take so long? It can take years to get to this level of danger.
“So look it’s a very, very sad situation, I feel badly about it and I think people should try find out what happened.
“Somebody is not telling the facts, that’s a big problem.”
The current president appeared to then boast about his own physical test results, including cognitive tests, sharing that he was “proud” to have “aced it”.
And it was no time at all before people were tearing into Trump online for making it “all about him.”
One individual on Twitter wrote: “He is disgusting at times.”
“As usual, he managed to make a question about Biden’s cancer diagnosis all about himself,” commented another.
“Mentioning ‘Stage 9’ and then bragging about acing his cognitive tests, is the kinda irony he genuinely excels at,” said a third.
Trump has long harangued Biden over his age and rumored cognitive decline, downplaying his rival’s competence repeatedly while the two were vying for the White House seat last year.
Biden eventually dropped out of the race for the presidency following a disastrous live debate, but he and his team have always denied that he was suffering from Alzheimer’s.
