Donald Trump and Melania spent a few days in the UK for their second state visit last week. While President Trump was meeting UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Melania joined Kate Middleton for a royal outing, where they met scout children. Now, Chief Scout Dwayne Fields, who was there as well, has shared his verdict on Melania and what she is really like.
Melania Trump and her husband were, like many times before, in the spotlight as they visited the UK for a second state visit in mid-September. Melania Trump’s special hat became a significant news story, and on the last day of the visit, she stepped out alongside Kate Middleton.
At Frogmore Gardens in Windsor, the Princess of Wales and the First Lady of the United States met members of the Scouts’ Squirrels program, joining a group of 4 to 6 year olds to create art.
Melania helped a small group who pressed inked leaves onto paper and added illustrations, to which she remarked: “This is beautiful!”
Meanwhile, Kate sat on the grass speaking with some of the children about the art they had made. At one point, one youngster took Melania’s hand and showed her the “bug hotels” they’d been building from cardboard.
“Show me how, what I should do,” Melania said, revealing that her favorite bug is a “ladybug.”
Kate and Melania both had gifts for the children as well. The Princess of Wales had prepared a special packed lunch featuring sandwiches made with honey from the family’s summer home, Anmer Hall. Meanwhile, Melania brought honey from the White House.
Melania Trump was asked ‘surprising’ royal question during state visit
The first lady was praised by a royal expert after her visit, saying that appearing with Kate Middleton gave her more “substance.” With Melania and her husband having traveled back to America, Chief Scout Dwayne Fields, who was with Kate and Melania at the event, has shared new details about the day with them.
He told People that Melania was very “engaging” and asked the children a lot of questions, and even made some artwork together.
“It was really great to see and really great to have her to take the message back to the U.S. and what she’s seen us in the U.K. doing. This is the home of Scouts, and this is where it started, and for her to be able to take back what she experienced here is great. She said she really enjoyed and remarked that some of the artwork took her back to when she was younger,” he said.
Fields continued by explaining that Melania got one quite surprising question from one of the children.
“They knew they were coming to meet the princess, and one of the young asked Mrs. Trump: ‘Are you the next princess?’ ” Field recalled. “That gives an idea of how little they knew about the situation.”
Praised Melania for how she handled the children
The Chief Scout concluded the interview by recalling how Melania really cared about the children. knowing how to calm them down.
“[Melania] sat down on the chair, and when she was speaking with the young people, there was lots of eye contact and lots of questions about them and how they were doing. It was very inviting to the young people, and they were receptive to it and responded really well,” Fields told People.
