Melania Trump got to try her hand at a part of royal life when she and Donald Trump visited the UK for their second state visit in mid-September. The first lady joined Kate Middleton on a royal outing, and according to experts, it could mark the beginning of a strong and friendly relationship between the two.
During Donald and Melania’s state visit in mid-September, First Lady Melania Trump got to see what a royal day could look like. Together with Kate Middleton, she met members of the Scouts’ Squirrels program, joining a group of 4 to 6-year-olds to create art.
Melania and Kate, the Princess of Wales, were seen spending time with the children, and from the pictures from the event, it was clear that they enjoyed each other’s company.
The first lady was praised by a royal expert after her visit, saying that appearing with Kate Middleton gave her more “substance.” But perhaps there was even more to it.
One Kensington Palace source told Hello! Magazine article suggests that Kate and Melania’s joint outing could have crucial significance for the diplomatic relationship between the US and the UK.
“You could very much see how warm and friendly they were after spending time together,” said a Kensington Palace source. “They were chatting away and they both really enjoyed the engagement. The First Lady was super-relaxed and she really enjoyed her time with the Princess.”
Melania Trump & Kate Middleton’s “warm” friendship
Melania Trump was pictured being very engaged with the children’s painting and “bug hotel” constructions in Frogmore Gardens. The news outlet refers to a White House source who claimed it was “absolutely” the highlight of the trip for the first lady.
Another source stated that Kate and Melania’s outing “definitely” is the start of “what looks set to be a very warm, long-term relationship” between the two. Speaking to Hello, CNN anchior Max Foster, who is based in London, Donald Trump will also be very happy about the outcome.
“It’s so important to him that she is treated with respect and is as much a part of the occasion as, if not more than, himself. The way the Palace integrated the First Lady would have been noticed. She wasn’t seen as someone accompanying the President; she was treated as someone who was as much of a guest as the President. And I think he would have really, really valued that,” Foster told Hello! adding that it could lead to more visits in the future, perhaps even in the US.
“From what I’ve seen, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were to go away and collaborate on something in the US,” he concluded. “Having Princess Catherine as our joint patron means that lots of options are open, and I wouldn’t take anything off the table when it comes to some kind of joint project or some kind of initiative with the US Scouts.”
