Every generation brings a new sense of humor and new turns of phrases that the generation before might have a hard time understanding.
One phrase that seems to make Gen-Z and those younger giggle is ‘six seven’, but it has the older generations really stumped.
Keep reading to find out more.
The phrase ‘six, seven’ or usually written as ’67’ has become incredibly popular on social media, especially among younger people on platforms like TikTok. While the younger crowd does not miss a beat when it comes to laughing at the mention of the joke, older people scratch their heads in confusion.
So what does it mean? Well… nothing. That is what makes the meme so hilarious to young people. There have been 1.1 million TikTok videos about the joke so far, as Gen Z and Gen Alpha find it hilarious, while those of older generations remain confused.
The joke’s origins are attributed to hip-hop artist Skrilla, who released the song ‘Doot Doot’ in December 2024. In the song, he says, “6-7, I just bipped right on the highway (bip, bip).” That is when the phrase apparently took off.
A popular TikTok account called Mr. Lindsay, who is a teacher and has branded themselves as an ‘OG Student Translator,’ posted a video earlier this year where he explained it, “It has blown up even more.” He explained that kids these days will respond with ‘six-seven’ to anything from ‘what is that smell?’ or ‘what time is it?’
“So, all of this to say, ‘six seven’ is just a reference to a meme,” Mr. Lindsay explained to confused older people. “There’s no real meaning to it. It is a number that is fun to say… with the hand motions, and it just doesn’t mean anything.”
Well, that is hilarious to know! What did you think of the six-seven meme meant? Let us know on the comments section on Facebook.
