A woman in China recently confirmed her relationship with 57-year-old Gui Junmin. In 2017, Junmin decided to cryogenically freeze his wife till a cure for lung cancer was not discovered.

Zhan Wenlian became China’s first person to be cryopreserved. She is currently held at the Shandong Yinfeng Life Science Research Institute in a -320°F unit labeled ‘Container No. 1.’

Currently, there are 500 people in the world who have undergone a similar process, with most of them bring in the United States.

In April 2017, Wenlian was diagnosed with lung cancer with bleak hopes for survival. This is when her husband signed her up for an experimental program.

“When she left, my world collapsed; I didn’t know what to do,” he was reported to have said at the time.

But this month, Chinese media reported that Junmin had not only started dating but had been living with his new girlfriend since 2020!

He lived alone and was single for two years until a severe case of gout left him feeling differently about being alone, according to Maeil Business Newspaper.

According to the outlet, Junmin had collapsed because of the gout attack and was only discovered two days later by relatives who broke down his door.

“If something really happens when you’re alone, there’s nothing that that person can do. No one can know even if they die at home,” Junmin said of the incident.

This led him to his current partner, Wang Chun-sha, with whom he now lives with.

People online are now discussing the case and questioning whether his wife would be happy about this, whether enough time had passed since her death for him to have moved on, and more.

One person wrote online, “Now he is holding one woman in his arms while hoping to reunite with another in 30 years. What is this: emotional polygamy?”

While another added, “If that is the case, why start a new relationship? If you do, why not treat your new partner with genuine care? This kind of so-called devotion is not noble; it is selfish,” another commented.

But some came to his defense, with one saying, “The past is the past, and the living must continue to live.”

While he has a new girlfriend, he has clarified that he is still in love with his late wife.

“She hasn’t entered my mind yet,” he said, according to Dexerto. “I have a responsibility for her, but it’s a complicated matter. She can never replace my wife. I can’t just forget the past, but I still have to live my life.

“I don’t care about her, she can go wherever she wants,” he said.

This is such a unique situation. What do you think about Gui Junmin’s decisions? Let us know in the comments section on Facebook.
