Now, the New Jersey lawmaker has exchanged vows with real estate agent Alexis Lewis.

The New Jersey Democrat tied the knot with real estate professional Alexis Lewis in two intimate ceremonies in November 2025, one in Newark, the city that shaped his political career, and another in Washington, D.C., the hometown that shaped hers.
The celebrations came just weeks after Booker announced their engagement in a heartfelt Instagram post that quickly captivated the public.
“Alexis is one of the greatest unearned blessings of my life,” he wrote at the time, sharing sun-soaked images from his beachside proposal in Kauai.
“She has transformed me… helping me ground and center my inner life, and discover the joys of building a nurturing home with someone you love.”
A love story set up by a friend
Booker and Lewis first met on a blind date in May 2024, thanks to a determined mutual friend with a reputation for matchmaking. During a June 2025 appearance on The Shade Room, Booker admitted that he initially resisted the idea.
“I at first said, ‘No, I’m not interested,’ because she lives in L.A. and I live in New Jersey and D.C.,” he recalled. But Lewis’ family roots in Washington, D.C. helped bridge the distance. And soon, geography stopped mattering.
Their first date stretched more than five hours. Booker persuaded Lewis to extend her travel plans so they could have a second date, which he later described as “even better than the first” — a night that included dinner in Newark, a Broadway show, a long walk, and their first kiss outside the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart.
Sharing small details
By mid-2025, Booker was sharing small details about their relationship, including the moment Lewis asked to see his TikTok “For You” page.
“I sort of held my breath,” he told the Washington Examiner, laughing as he remembered her discovering his love for food and animal videos. At the time, he revealed that they had been together for over a year and a half.
While Booker freely admits he Googled Lewis before their first date — “Who goes on a date anymore without doing a full Google search?” — she intentionally skipped the research.
“She wanted to meet me as I am,” he said.

He also reflected on how earlier in his career, especially during his years as Newark’s mayor, he didn’t prioritize personal relationships. But meeting Lewis at a moment of emotional clarity changed that.

Married at a federal courthouse
The couple wed quietly on November 24, 2025, at a federal courthouse in Newark. Their parents were in attendance as Judge Julien Xavier Neals officiated.
After signing the paperwork, they celebrated with Italian pastries and a vegan chocolate-chip cookie-dough cake, a nod to Booker’s plant-based lifestyle.
Five days later, they exchanged vows again in Lewis’ hometown of Washington, D.C., during an interfaith ceremony officiated by both a rabbi and a pastor. They stood under a huppah adorned with photos of late family members — a symbolic tribute to those they wished could join them.
Photos posted to social media on November 30 captured the warmth of the day: Booker and Lewis embracing beneath golden fall light; standing before a glowing cathedral-style doorway; smiling beneath a floral arch; and kissing on a balcony overlooking the city.
Fans flooded their accounts with congratulations — and a few playful jabs. Some insisted Lewis had “First Lady energy”. One Instagram user wrote, “By the way, the dress and the woman are stunning!!” Another added, “She will make a stunning First Lady! Now let’s goooooo! Congratulations to you both.”
Others joked that she resembled Booker’s ex, actress Rosario Dawson. Dawson herself chimed in with a gracious “Love Love! Congratulations you two!”
Booker, 56, has represented New Jersey in the U.S. Senate since 2013 and previously served as Newark’s mayor.
His friends have long described him as a potential future leader of the Democratic Party, and his marriage has only amplified public interest in his political future.
Booker, who ran for president in 2020, hasn’t officially said whether he’s interested in taking another shot at the Oval Office. But many took notice again when the New Jersey Democrat delivered a 25-hour filibuster on the Senate floor in April 2025, lambasting President Donald Trump’s administration. He ultimately broke the record for the longest Senate filibuster in history.
Who is Alexis Lewis?
Booker’s wife, Alexis Lewis, 38, is a Washington, D.C. native and director of investments at Brasa Capital Management in Los Angeles. Before entering real estate and investment, she worked in economic policy for then-Mayor Eric Garcetti, supporting development initiatives in South L.A. She and Booker now share a home in Newark’s Central Ward along with their foster dog, Cooke.
Much of the fascination surrounding Booker and Lewis began when he announced their engagement on September 2, 2025, writing:
