A viral TikTok video is turning heads by showing exactly what happens inside your body when semen enters your mouth during oral sex. The graphic simulation tracks its journey through the digestive system, breaking down the science and debunking common myths.
The video, shared on TikTok by a user known as Dr. Boogie, lays out what happens inside the body when semen is swallowed.
Using a skinless anatomical model, the simulation shows a white liquid representing semen being consumed before tracing its path down the throat and into the digestive system. Small shapes representing sperm move with the fluid, as the clip walks viewers through the biological process step by step.
What happens when semen is swallowed?
According to the video’s narration, “When semen is swallowed, it travels down the esophagus just like any other swallowed fluid, reaching the stomach quickly.” From there, the simulation shifts focus to how the stomach responds.
“The small volume barely stretches the stomach walls, sending little to no fullness signals to the brain,” the clip explains, adding that the body does not treat semen as something unusual or foreign in the digestive tract.
Once it reaches the stomach, sperm cells are quickly deactivated by strong stomach acids and enzymes like pepsin, and the process becomes purely digestive.
Can you get pregnant?
According to Healthline, sperm – the tadpole like reproductive cells – makes up “about 1%-5% of semen,” while the rest consists of “seminal plasma fluid, which is mostly water.”
And because it’s in the digestive system, the persistent myth about pregnancy resulting from oral sex is debunked.
“The digestive system does not connect to the reproductive system. Therefore, swallowed semen cannot enter the vagina, uterus, or any other reproductive organ that would allow sperm to fertilize an egg,” Medical News Today reports.
Nutrients and hormones
The amount of nutrients in semen is extremely small. While some trace compounds may technically be absorbed into the bloodstream, Healthline explains you would “likely have to consume gallons of semen to see any dietary health benefit.”
In other words, semen – that reportedly “contains between 5 and 25 calories per teaspoon” – is not a viable source of protein or nutrients.
Semen also contains small amounts of melatonin, the hormone that regulates sleep cycles. Some speculate this could explain why certain people feel tired after sexual activity or exposure to semen, but there’s no scientific evidence confirming a direct link.
How long does semen stay in your body?
The TikTok simulation continues by showing the semen moving from the stomach into the small intestine. Because semen contains minimal fiber or bulk, it moves relatively quickly through the digestive tract.
Once in the small intestine, additional digestive enzymes continue breaking down the mixture. Nutrients, if present in meaningful amounts, would be absorbed here.
Within a short period, the remaining waste moves through the digestive system and “eliminated as waste.”
Is it safe to ingest semen?
According to Healthline, “for the most part,” the components that make up semen are safe to ingest. Swallowed semen is digested in the same way as food.
However, there are exceptions. In very rare cases, some individuals may have an allergic reaction to semen. This condition is known as human seminal plasma hypersensitivity (HSP). Symptoms can include redness, swelling, itching, or more severe allergic responses. Though uncommon, it is something to be aware of if unusual symptoms occur.
There is also the question of sexually transmitted infections. Swallowing semen can transmit certain STIs if a partner is infected. Open communication, regular testing, and informed consent remain essential parts of sexual health.
There is no pregnancy risk. No substantial nutritional gain. And for most people, no harm. As with any sexual activity, awareness, communication, and protection remain key.
