The U.S war in Iran is still ongoing. Now, a 38-year-old quote from President Donald Trump has caused heated reactions online. The reason? What he said back in 1988 sounds very similar to what is happening today.
The U.S is still very much heavily involved in the war in Iran. The military operation has been ongoing for a month, and what will happen next is not clear. But what is obvious is that the Trump administration doesn’t want to walk away from the conflict without a proper win.
However, an old quote from President Donald Trump may offer a clue about what is next, and it has spread across the internet.
In 1988, Trump was interviewed by The Guardian while promoting his book. At the time, he spoke about Iran and how the United States should respond in a hostile situation. He then claimed that he would be very tough on the Middle Eastern country, saying that at the time, the U.S looked “like fools.”
Donald Trump quote from 1988 could give clue about ground strike on Iran
“I’d be harsh on Iran. They’ve been beating us psychologically, making us look a bunch of fools. One bullet shot at one of our men or ships, and I’d do a number on Kharg Island. I’d go in and take it. Iran can’t even beat Iraq, yet they push the United States around. It’d be good for the world to take them on.”
Kharg Island is highly important for its strategic significance and, perhaps foremost, its economic importance. It’s located in the Persian Gulf with its port responsible for handling up to 90 percent of Iran’s crude oil exports.
As the U.S has carried out attacks in Iran, Kharg Island has become a major focus again. Because of this, people are connecting Trump’s old words with current events.
